Getting My Rug Cleaned

If this were a different site, that subject might have an entirely different meaning.

For example, if this was ToupeeAficionado.com.

What did you think I meant?

ANYWAY, on this site, the meaning is as follows: does anyone have a recommendation for somewhere in the neighborhood where I can an oriental area rug cleaned for a reasonable price?

Thanks.

  • I admit it. I thought dirty things. And was intrigued.
  • Ha. I guess it would have been more accurate to say that on this particular inquiry/thread the meaning specifically applies to an area rug. There are plenty of other threads on this site where the various and wondrous meanings of getting one's rug cleaned have been discussed at length.
  • Beave knows how to clean anything. You should let her "clean your rug" (if that's what the kids are calling it these days)

I work in advertising... a good headline can go a long way :)

But what about my damn area rug already?!

Haha. "Beave can clean my rug."

This is just getting out of hand.

Okay, okay, on topic. Personally, I wouldn't take my rug anywhere unless it was filthy. I'd clean it myself.

How big is the rug? Do you have access to a hose? Use a non-shedding sponge or soft brush and a solution of mild soap and cool water (not hot!). I wouldn't recommend a rug shampoo as it tends to leave a sticky residue. Rub in a linear motion. Rinse it well. Use a rolling pin or a shower squeegee to remove most of the water. Lay it flat to dry. Once it's dry to the touch, turn it over and let the underside dry.

    Perverts.
  • I wouldn't know anything about a rug cleaning if it hit me in the face. Damn hardwood floors.
  • I might give this a try, but I'd like to find somewhere to have it done professionally, since the roommate's friendly but not-too-well-trained pooch has turned it into his personal latrine.

Ah, okay. In this case, I'd recommend Nature's Miracle as well as some bitter apple spray. After you've cleaned the rug, spray it liberally with the bitter apple to keep his dirty ass off it.
  • you could have one of those people come to you. The carpet shampoo people. ...it seems easier than renting one of the machines, or having your rug be taken away and then returned
  • I just rented a powercleaner from Brooke's vacuums on 7th and 12th. $25 per day, $20 for detergent, $150 cash deposit. Did it myself, got decent results. A little elbow grease goes a long way. They'll also come onsite and do it for you, I think it's $90 per room.
  • also Cline's rug cleaners will pick up your rug and deliver it back when cleaned
  • I've never used this place but have seen recommendations, maybe even here but I can't tell anymore

They are in Greenpoint (same as Clines rug cleaners)
  • Thanks, all.

Once you have it "cleaned" (ahem), you should, in all seriosuness get some of this to protect your investment from future dog mishaps:

As a dog owner, I swear by this stuff. It works wonders!
  • I think there is a place that does rug cleaning on 4th st. and 7th ave. But I have never been in.
  • I took mine to Artesana at 7th Ave. & 1st St. The job took longer than originally promised but it got done. I recall the price was about standard.
  • Also, I would highly recommend getting yourself a bar of Fels-Naptha soap. It works on ANYTHING and I use it to scrub my kitchen and bathroom rugs 'cause they're small.
  • Once you get your rug cleaned, you can turn around and continue with this awesome invention:

yah, but I felt sorry for her, too.
  • I didn't. The bitch wound up needing a blood transfusion. Four times. After the first, I'd have let her bleed out. Dummy.
  • I knew I could count on you for some compassion :-)
  • I have no time for compassion. I have to go buy new cleaning toothbrushes. For my BASEBOARDS! WHOO!!
