My wife went to Park Sports, on PPW and Garfield.
-
So the cast comes off in time for the new couch!
What about the place on 10th Ave and Windsor? -
I went to Windsor PT on 8th avenue and 15thish. They were very nice. 718-768-0002
-
I went to Metro Sports...right above Barnes and Noble - liked them a lot (and they had great hours)
-
thanks everybody ----10th/Windsor is really close. I didn't know there was one there. Jack, do you know what it's called? 8th/15th wouldn't be too bad either.
and the couch is here, but the air cast stays for 6 more weeks (during therapy) -
-
thanks, BJack!

I've been using Slope Sports (I think that's the name), the "other" location from the Garfield one. It's on 6th Ave @ 20th, across from Safe Haven (formerly BarBQ).
I like it fine and I had no trouble with them on my insurance. There are a lot of people there at once, but that helps them keep the rates down. I think I like that better than if she were by my side the entire time. Instead you're all in one room, and she can see you and you can ask questions anytime and some folks get chatty which can be entertaining (I just sit back and listen). Once you know what you're doing, it's pretty easy to get to it and just ask for adjustments according to pain and ability each time. -
I'm at Metro Sports now and I love them. I work with Carlos and Matthew. Very smart guys.
-
cool...sounds like i have a lot of good options, although i do like individual attention (surprise!), so i'm not sure I'd dig OQ's place......
does Metro sports stick with you during the session?
i can likely make it to 11th/windsor without a taxi, which is a big plus -
ljnd - you like Carlos? I saw him too, but didn't care for his treatment. I'm a veteran of PT and I was in serious pain when he worked on me and he just kept going. I also didn't like the the fact that they don't heat the area before working on you.
Plus the staff isn't that great either. I canceled my appointments because I was getting worse, saw another doctor and was told not to go back. I can't tell you the number of times they called to make more appointments after I said - I am not coming back, Doctors orders.
My husband went to Park Sports (both locations) and had a great experience with them. -
I saw Kamila at Park Sports and liked her. Part of them having overlapping appointments is to keep the cost down (which is helpful if you have to cover much/any of the cost yourself).
I do think that people who wanted more hands on may have gotten it. I liked to just go and quietly do my thing, which was kind of easy b/c I was familiar with most of the exercises. And she was right there if I was concerned about pain or discomfort. Also, there was something about the atmosphere that was really relaxing that helped me like going in to feel the pain.
If (likely when) I have to go back to a PT, I might try one of these other places at least once just to compare since I have never needed PT and don't really know how to judge the quality but I would have no qualms about going back to Kamila.
(Oh, and you might end up choosing by who has appointments when you can go b/c when I was calling, it was hard to get in as a new patient in less than 2-3 weeks at some places. -
I had a wonderful experience at Metro Sports (and not sure what was meant by heating an area - I had to do exercises - I wasn't getting massages). And yes, I kept the same therapist for my therapy...and I was the only client during the hour
-
generally you put heat on the area affected if you going to get massage therapy. It loosens up your muscles and eases some of the pain. Plus it makes you more flexible when stretching.
-
I think heat is for really specific injuries. If inflamation is an issue (like with my tendon and ligament damage) heat is bad. You only want to ice that, which is what my PTist did post-exercises before I could leave.
-
understandable, but I've had PT on this area (same injury) before, so I knew what I should have been getting.
-
I had a knee problem so there was no massage...but I was given some treatment with infra-red heat. Again, I had a great experience there and their hours were great - I have a regular 9-5 job and I didn't have to take off any time from work for therapy.
-
I went to Metro Sports for OT and loved it. They started me off with heat and ended with an ice pack. There were usually about 4 in a room, sometimes less, and when your therapist wasn't working on you you were doing exercises. The receptionist was great and a recorded message was left the night before reminding you of your appt. I had the first morning appts.

Carlos gave me ice, actually. And he's got a heavy massage hand, no question, but I needed that - I have tendinosis in my hip, with calcium deposits in the tendon which are like little tiny shards of glass; they need to be broken up and dissolved by ultrasound and massage. He was strict with the exercise, too - I need to hold my body differently and use my core more, so he was great in helping me figure that out. Matthew is a terrific stretcher, and has loads and loads of advice; he's very practical and knowledgeable.
It can get crowded there - I find that midday is the worst time to be there, but since I work at home, I can schedule early morning and it's fine. -
i've never done PT. but i have, and still undergoing OT at metrosport. and so far i like them. it can get somewhat crowded, but never to the point that we have no where to seat or table to work on. my therapist may not be at my side all the time, but she is never far and still keeps her eyes on me. besides she usually gives me a whole set of exercises to work on (after showing me how to and watches me doing it a few times to make sure i get it correctly), and there is no point for her to stick around and watching me doing repetitive exercises anyway. at most if i have question, i can always call her.
i thought of giving park sport a try, first time i called, nobody picked up and nobody returned my call even after i left message. few days later i called back, couldnt get any appointment either until the next several weeks. i called metrosport, got a spot on the same week.
