Babysit Your Pup - For Free!
Hopefully this doesn't sound too weird but I'd love to babysit your dog for a weekend or something. I already volunteer at brooklyn animal center (barc), the economy's crap & I'm getting puppy cuddles out of this - so I don't really care to be compensated...
I have a bit of a sob story - I came to new york almost 3 years ago - and I left my bichon frise with my mom because well, she loved him and I couldn't find an apt that would allow dogs. Since I've lived in NY I've craved canine affection and I really miss walking, cuddling a dog and trips to the park. So to assuage the pains in my heart I got a brilliant idea - I can babysit someone's dog! All the fun with none of the commitment!
I am interested in this being a weekend sort of thing - since I work during the week.
Dogs bark, obviously, but i don't want a dog that enjoys barking for the hell of it - i have neighbors and want to be considerate to them.
Feel free to PM me if you're interested or have ?s. I will probably have ?s as well - size of dog, temperment, house broken etc.

Uh...you wouldn't try to eat his eyeballs or sell his kidneys would you?

I'm surprised you haven't thought of fostering dogs short-term for BARC. If they don't need fosters (which would be surprising), you might try other rescues.
-
Fostering isn't just for the weekends, though, and the OP said he/she can't handle weekday walks. Plus, fostering can be a huge undertaking in general.
-
I know fostering isn't just for weekends! I seriously didn't read this post well - just skimmed through and responded too quickly.

Gtrain - you need to make friends with people who have dogs. I have a "rental doggy", meaning I just get the best of dog ownership....a part-time dog. Plus, now my friend/neighbor is coming over with is adorable chocolate lab to hang in my yard.
-
I love having friends that adore my critter (meaning when I travel for work he's cared for, usually in my own apartment!)
I agree and disagree with the fostering comment- if you REALLY have no time during the week its obviously not for you, however so many dogs need foster homes that it might be worth giving it a shot if you're at all able. Having a foster CAN be a huge deal (behavioral issues, etc) but the flipside is that the dog would likely be in a cage all day or possibly in a kill-shelter waiting out its final moments... its worth a second thought. -

Well, isn't that what she/he's doing right now? What- should they go to the doggie park and walk up to some stranger and be all, "hey, cute dog. Wanna be friends?" Weird. -
well, wtw, maybe she is, but i meant in real life....get to know neighbors, store owners.....that's how i got my doggy friends....

awwww! i knew this post would/possibly come off as creepy. haha! fail on my part.
if i could figure out a way to un-creepify this post i would. i'm at a loss on how to do this though, OBVIOUSLY!
uhm, but to answer your original question - no i will not eat your dog. -

i thought about doing this but the animal shelters require a note from my landlord saying that they accept pets. my landlord is - well, how can i say this? she is not an accommodating, kind individual and i'd rather not interact with her unless it's absolutely dire. i might try and go this route eventually if my i-want-to-play-with-a-doggy-fever doesn't lessen soon...

plus, i assumed that fostering would, at the least, require that i have the pup for a few weeks straight. that feels like too much commitment for me at this time... -
maybe you could try Stray From the Hearts part-time buddy program. They'll probably require a note from your landlord though.
