I think EmilyM added it to the pool. the text of the photo should tell you a bit about who tagged. -

Wait, I took the photo of the Soda bathroom and put it in the pool. Or do you mean the photo that was on Brownstoner? -

No, I keep forgetting to bring my camera to Soda, so I begged apollonia to take it!

gee, I like Ellis G's stuff, it's neato, I like that he uses chalk, it makes it more artistic than most graffiti. the signing of his name and copy right thing is kinda pompous but hey, as soon as it rains it's gone, I think it makes it kind of poetic. plus, keith Haring is my hero and he did chalk graffiti.

P.S. I did read the thread about him previously. didn't get what all the uproar was about, yall can hate him all you want. -
Yeah - bathroom graffiti is so much more valid and insightful than what Ellis G. does. I'm no fan, but genius remarks like that, written while sitting on the can, spare me.

mmmk. I thought for a while what he was doing was kind of cool. But he was a total dick on this board. And his work as an artist is completely inseparable from his relentless and pompous self-promotion. He talks as if he "invented" chalk "art"--which he didn't. And, while some of his stuff, in the abstract, is kind of cool, it does NOT compare to serious graf artists, I'm sorry. First of all, none of them are as spotlight-seeking as he is; secondly, and more importantly, they do more than trace shadows on sh*t. They produce interesting, insightful, and artistically sophistocated work in a public space.

rant over. -

Mute - the artist inseparable from the art? I think not. I appreciate that he may be an insufferable prick but whoever heard of an artist, or "artist" if you prefer, being an insufferable prick, eh?
Just the mannner of attack, not from you MUte, the graffiti I mean, really chaps my ass. It's more pointless, boring and asinine than his art could ever be. With probably more effort involved.
P.S. What sound does a mute flute make? -

clever. and you're the one getting your ass chapped about someone cursing out an insufferable jerk on a bathroom stall?
listen--don't just listen to what I have to say. He copywrites his work in huge letters. copywrites it. I don't think he's an artist, I just think he's a dick. I don't particularly like the graf about him, either, but it doesn't pretend to be art. In fact it doesn't pretend to be anything other than what it is: some words on a bathroom stall. -

Of course then he'd take credit for starting the whole idea of using urine in art. -
I do think the copyrighting he does is somewhat tongue in cheek, I mean, he does it in years that havn't happened yet.
