muggings anyone?

i'm relatively new to the neighborhood and was wondering if there are frequent muggings around.
i was "mugged" (or maybe an attemped mugging, since i wasn't hurt and didn't give them any money) but they (2 teen boys) followed me saying "give me your money" and holding something in his pocket but never took it out.
this was a couple weeks ago, 1:30am, corner of Park Pl. + Underhill, and along Underhill to Sterling.
anyway, does this happen often? i'm kinda scared now.

do a search of the board for the words mugged or mugging - you'll find a lot of threads.

You'll find a bunch of threads, but they'll be talking about relatively few incidents. I was at the community meeting at Sepia a week or so ago and it was pretty clear that despite people's complaints that the the Underhill area is underpatroled it was only because the area is fairly low on crime, especially in comparison to other areas the 77th Precinct serves.

Take common sense precautions, but don't get too freaked out. Incidents like the one you had are scary, but rare.

BTW Did you report it to the police?
