today spoted a homeless guy sleeping next to a business
I called up 311, they transfer me to some homeless outreach program.
man 311 sucks. I told them the guy was located at 79 4th ave. they keep saying 79th st and 4th ave!! i keep telling them its freaking 79 4th ave is the address.
anyway by the time they call me back about where it was located. the owners of the business bribe the guy to leave with some cash.
he was playing with himself inside his pants. while sleeping there.
i guess its not the old days where you see cops telling the homeless guy to leave.

You ever think that he may have been tired? Being homeless isn't all rainbows and warm mittens you know.
I mean it's probably easier than being a little bitch, but come give the guy a break.... for one thing that's crack alley... the one place in Park Slope where the homeless rule.
Let the man sleep for christ's sake - he might get hungry and need to rob some food later... can't exactly steal while all run down and shit. -

you want to give me your address i'll make sure to send him and his friends over to your place
. -
I live in the apartment upstairs from you asshole... perhaps we can all party later tonight?
You gather the residentially challenged and I'll bring the cheap booze.
Also, my friend wanted me to tell you to stop being such a looser. -
I thought PA's weren't allow here.
-
Maybe you should call 311 and complain...
-
nope i'll just send a link to the mods.
-
I really think you should call 311... I've paid off the mods of this board (with Whiskey and handjobs).
I basically have diplomatic immunity when it comes to message board material. -
ENOUGH!!
No personal attacks! DR is not immune, he still owes me whiskey. Just stop please. -
I'll stop.... but only if armchair apologizes to his refresh button.
-
Due to being bored and half drunk, I've decided to get involved. Yeah, leave the guy alone. Homeless? Well, that sucks. Was he bothering someone? Was he being threatening? Sounds like he was sleeping, according to the post. What's the big deal? Now, if he's one of these homeless people that somehow gets into the building and sleeps in the vestibule or on the steps that's another matter. But asleep outside? What's the big deal?
-
he was sleeping next to a business and playing with himself. when i meant sleeping i meant he was lying in that position.
but at the end he left after they gave him some money to leave. -
I can kind of understand- if I was homeless I would totally just play with myself in front of children. What else is there to do? Plus he scored some cash? Saweet!!!! Now if only I knew how to kick the 7th ave F stattion homeless person out. Grrr. Summer approaches and she is going to start stinking the joint up with her bathroom breaks, lysol and cigs.

There are way too many bums playing with themselves in public. So fucking gross!
-
Cut AW a little slack here. At least he called 311. A lot of people call 911 to ask for an ambulance when they want to get rid of a homeless person near their home or business. If the homeless person is actually drunk, they're not allowed to refuse transport, and if necessary the police will be called to coerce them into coming to the hospital. Then they get a full medical evaluation, and can't be released from the ER until they're sober. A huge waste of resources all around, and grossly unfair to homeless who are just having a drink and not doing anything to bother anyone. On the other hand, it's a policy that errs on the side of pubic safety (intoxicated people may be sick and lack capacity to make decisions for themselves). It's really the abuse of the system by property owners to get rid of someone they don't like that's the problem.
If you read the ambulance call reports on the homeless drunk guys, the chief complaint is usually something like "I'm drunk" or "Leave me alone" or "I'm OK." -

what business was it in front of?

Ok, you've got to be kidding me - they didn't have homeless people where you're from? Lucky you live in Guiliani's/Bloomberg's New york.

Armchair Warrior was born and raised in Brooklyn!
I don't see what good carting this guy to an ER would do. Once sober and discharged, he'd make a beeline for the nearest deli or liquor store and be right back on the sidewalk. Unless a legal entity mandates a person to treatment (and in some cases, particularly with NYC Dept of Probation, even that often fails), no one can coerce him to change his ways. Zeitgeist places civil liberties above mental health. -

i do, i grew up in brooklyn, back then it was simple bums didn't goto some areas cause the locals would kick the snot of them. thats generally the working class areas, thats why they love liberal areas of nyc lol.
other areas the cops would just help move them generally nice areas.
thats a fact of nyc life. -
I grew up in Brooklyn too, I clearly remember seeing a lady bum taking a piss in a doorway. It was quite a site!

It usually doesn't do any good except for removing the individual from the business that called. But sometimes these guys are actually sick, and EMS isn't really qualified to determine who is and who isn't. So once they're called, they have to bring the patient to the ER.

hey AW,
ya notice how no one here thought about how this homeless guy could just as easily been playing with himself right next to an outdoor cafe they were dining at on 7th ave ? at which point it would be a horrible disgusting thing.
but you see, since it didnt happen to them personally,
masturbating homeless guy somehow becomes an heroic figure.
of course had you reported that a stroller mom had been blocking the door, well , im sure these same people would have been totally with ya. -

I'd like to speak for everyone (yes, every single person that reads this board) and ask about this "playing with himself" comment.
Let me get this straight: 1)he was "playing with himself" 2) inside his pants 3) kinda sleeping and/or in "sleeping position"... 4) according to armchair. How close exactly did you get AW? Pictures?
For me it just doesn't add up. Maybe this homeless guy had some jock itch, maybe he was scratching his balls. It certainly doesn't sound like this guy was glaring at passerbys with his junk in his hand, furiously masturbating, coyly grinning while whiskey ran down his chin.
Sounds to me like he was drunk, itchy, and tired. Who among us hasn't scratched their balls or equivalents?
Why do you hate itchy balls AW? -
I don't think there's any reason to think AW made up that part. Most people can tell the difference between a guy scratching and one masturbating.
-
i'm a guy lol, i can tell you 100% between ball scratching and playing with yourself.
well nothing is 100% but i am very sure it was. -

I've also witnessed this. Guy had made his bed in the tiny foyer of our building, completely blocking the door inside. He was grunting with his hand down his pants and I just told him to get the hell out, and ran to Flatbush and waited inside of a 24 hour business (I was coming home from work and it was very late) for a while. I don't blame AW for calling 311.

as a girl i think you can safely kick a guy in the balls
, but as a guy i don't feel comfy doing it LOL. with kidding aside, that sucks

Was he "playing with himself" in a Michael Jackson sense (hee) or George Michael sense?
-
I agree with what you say, Carnivore, but in the end these types usually decline all services and are promptly discharged, often to show up again to repeat the process in less than a month. I used to work in an ER and saw this pattern all the time.
Howdy, Stranger!
