over eating beagle

My 8 month old beagle who normally is on a strict feeding schedule got into a bag of dog food this am and over ate. He has since vomited and had bowel movements but should I still be concerned?

  • If he just ate a bunch of dog food, *I* wouldn't worry as long as he doesn't seem too miserable. The only problem I know of with eating is dogs that eat really fast can get bloat, but I think that's somewhat breed specific.

Does he seem bright eyed and happy otherwise? Sometimes my bf gets our dog this treat at the farmers market (despite my pleas to stop) that the dog wolfs down and then vomits within a few hours. Despite vomiting and sometimes urgent poop, he still seems happy so I don't really worry.
  • Yeah, I think he'll be okay. If the vomiting and pooing continues, you can call your vet to see if it's okay to give him something - Imodium or something to calm his tummy (canned pumpkin works well for that). But call your vet first before giving him anything!
  • My dog did this once, too. Ate so much she was visibly fatter for a day. As long as the vomiting doesn't continue, you're probably fine, just keep him hydrated. But expect lots more poops than usual, and heavier. :(
  • My last dog was a starved puppy when we got her and started pigging out when we got her. One of the two other dogs we had decided the puppy needed all the dog meals. After a week of that my pup waddled all over the place and even fell over sometimes from her sudden weight but it never seemed to hurt her.

It was just hilariously cute to see that fluffy white shepherd waddle around. I can imagine a beagle's thrill at unlimited food :)
  • You must get your dog to a health facility ASAP. Obviously, you are dealing with beagle bulimia.
  • 8 momnth old beagle????!!!!!! Pictures please!!!!!! I love beagles. My brother has one. So sweet.
