Practice Space?

There are practice rooms for rent at work - but it's in Manhattan.
-
The Brooklyn Conservatory of Music rents practice rooms by the hour when they're available. Best in the evenings after lessons and programs are done.

I work in manhattan, so that might be ok, especially if the price is right ... if you want to PM me with info, I'd appreciate it! Thanks! -
Like Scarlett said, there are many in Manhattan. A lot of them are on W30th Street off of 8th Ave. Ultrasound is the one I can think of, there's also Funkadelic (on 26th Street?) and a few others. They used to be advertised in the Voice; I don't know if they still are.
You rent by the hour, prices range from $18 to maybe $40 an hour depending on room size.
You get amps, mics & a drum kit, you have to bring cymbals and your own guitars. The better ones have a wide range of amps.
You usually have to leave a deposit to avoid no-shows. -
I did a quick google search for

OH manhattans ok ?

(any one remember d'raz at legal tender ?)
ive recorded at both ultrasound and funkadelic as well as rehearse.
they are solid places.
you can also get cheap hourly rentals at the music building on 8 ave 38th street (presuming it hasnt been condemned lol) officially they are all monthly, unofficially - alot of the bands rent out their rooms by the hour. -

Sad!
I've seen the one at 9th and 2nd advertised, but thought I'd check to see if there was anywhere in particular that people had experience with and recommended. Trying to be a good neighbor and not disturb the rest of the building with my EPIC ROCKING OUT
(it's so not epic
).
Thanks, all! -
The studios on 9th and 2nd are NOT hourly spaces.
The only hourly space I can find in Brooklyn, that is not in WB/GP, is Complete Music, which is not convenient if you live off the F/R. -

Yeah, it's still there. My old band does one night a week there. Such a dump!

Many people know that I own Slope Music and this question of practice space here comes up a lot. We do not offer practice space to the public, though we have ample space and time when studios are not being used.
Doing so would not be lucrative but what we do is offer practice space free to our students whether they want to practice alone or play with other students here (or people they know).
I usually refer to Brooklyn Conservatory but frankly, have feedback on their prices or availability. -
does the east coast rocker/aquarian or the music paper/musicians exchange still publish ??
one used to be able to get them for free at newstands , music clubs, rehearsal and recording rooms.
these local rags were great for finding truly local studios ,shops, instruction and services.
@veets - every time i walk by your building i recall that i noticed it a few days after moving here and i recall simply being happy for its existence . that was 20 years ago. I am still simply happy for its existence. and i hope that 20 years from now i have the chance to tell you that again.

Subject: Music rehearsal room in Williamsburg, full back line- $10/HR
Hello gang,
I just finished building a brand new rehearsal room here in Williamsburg, Brooklyn (yes, I know, there are many), but mine is just one beautiful 25 by 12 foot room, with a window and brand new 1400 BTU AC. There are no other rooms next to it, so you don't have to listen to anybody else but yourself. It's soundproofed with new carpeting. It's on the ground floor in my warehouse, which has a brand new bathroom.
Equipment:
100 Watt Marshal Valvestate head with Marshal 4 x 12 cab.
200 Watt Behringer Guitar Head
300 Watt Crate 4x12 Cabinet
300 Watt Ampeg Bass Amp with matching cab
6 piece Ayotte maple drums set, (have crash and ride, but currently you will need to bring your own High Hats.)
300 Watt PA System with 4 mics.
Baby Grand piano
We're located at North 3rd and Berry in Williamsburg, across from the Rattegast Beer Garden and next to the Levy bar, 5 blocks from the Bedford L stop.
Grand Opening hourly rate is $10 an Hour. (This will go up later, but we're trying to get the word out.)
Just bring your guitar, bass, drumsticks and music.
Email me if you'd like to check the place out or schedule a rehearsal.
I run a small moving company out of the warehouse too, so don't be confused by the voicemail.

We do not rent out practice space but for our own students we make practice space available at no charge. It still makes sense for a keyboard player( for instance) to have some "instrument" at home but if they want to practice on a Steinway afew hours a week then we just find time where a piano is open and they practice.
I get calls all the time for practice space and it is too bad there are so few places in the Slope that proide the service.
In a way we are selfish I guess because we have no interest in providing practice space ( at a fee for the community ) but we do go there for our own students. -
Oh and Garfinky... next time you pass by..ring the bell and say hello!!
We are usually home. -
veets - I know your house and also think it's awesome. It must be HUGE inside!
-
Veets...that's my favorite house in the neighborhood....I had a friend visiting from Vancouver a few years ago and she noticed it too....I've always loved tht house!
-
Hey I don't invite strangers in but especially in summer I am in front garden a lot.. old woman with red curly hair (lol) so say hello and I will give you the tour.
Off topic.. one of my favorite stuents had her last lesson due to financial problems. She is great student so I feel particularly sad but if anyone has been thinking of studying I have an opening. -

I dont think that a youngster would be able to focus on their lesson plan if a buncha stoned hacks was jammin out to smoke on the water.
Youre doing what is best for your business.

So true Garfunky.. But we teach more adults than kids and they wouldn't appreciate that vibe either. I guess if we need extra money we will have to rent our parking space out!

I thought there was also a studio on 7th Ave around 15, 16 or 17th st. Will look into it.
