What are people getting their dads for Father's Day?
Subject: What are people getting their dads for Father's Day?
I'm thinking of a shiatsu pillow (for lack of being able to think of anything else). I can't get him any food or booze because he has health issues. I've already bought out the LLBean catalog for past Xmases, birthdays and such. My dad's retired so doesn't need any more ties. ;-)Comments

Nothing beats really nice slippers (maybe those shearling ones?) and a great thick robe!

a phone call

Thanks Mama! MB, he will be getting a phone call, as well. ;-)

This. My father lives in another country and is still under the impression that I'm 12 so he doesn't actually expect me to send a gift. WIN! -
Just ordered a navy robe from LL Bean (I probably got him the same one a year ago but have no recall. Hey, they wear out, right?

for the last two years my dad has been obsessed with the idea of turning the backyard deck into a tiki lounge, and i think that's fantastic, so i use father's day as a chance to help him along. last year i got him wooden lanterns, and this year i bought an assortment of tiki-themed tableware (glasses, salt/pepper shakers, etc.). but if he didn't have this fetish i'd probably have gone with a little basket of interesting foods. he loves to eat new things. actually, i did buy a bacon chocolate bar to throw in with the tiki stuff.

Can't get dad any food (see initial post) and he doesn't have a deck. ;-)

he must eat something. my dad has some health issues and dietary restrictions--no nuts, seeds, corn, that kind of thing, and also cholesterol troubles--but that's part of the fun. it makes it a challenge to find something he can eat that is also mostly tasty. i find that he's more likely to try it if he's never seen or heard of it before. i can imagine that being an uncommon trait, though.
i guess if my dad had no fringe interests, i'd go back to his christmas list to see what we'd missed. there's usually a movie or something that he'd be happy to get. -
what about t-shirts or books? Netflix subscription?
Got my dad a t-shirt at the 5th Ave Street Fair and will probably pick him up a couple more at the fair this weekend. But he's a fan of t-shirts with stuff on them. -
My dad told me at Christmas what he wanted for "his holidays." (His birthday was Friday.) He is always proactive about sending lists and such after years of my mom's horrible presents. This year it was a 2 burner grill/griddle. He loved it.

A little late here, but magazine subscriptions can do well. Nat Geo has great pictures even if the person isn't really into the articles. And there are tons of special interest ones if he's into or follows an area (climbing, photography, politics, etc.)
I think my bf's dad (who I call the FIL) is ready for a netflix subscription, with us making some title suggestions.
The Antworks ant farm is tons of fun. It comes with a little coupon for ants that will do well in it. You mail it off and get a vial of ants back and dump them in. After they all die you can buy more, add more from the yard, or just toss/freecycle it. I know it says for kids but all the adults who saw ours were entertained.
