Jackasses on the N train after work
It's a quiet commute until these two 20-something assholes got on the train already drunk and carrying a six-pack of beer. A seat opened up and an older man went to sit down just as one of the drunks decided he was going to swing around the pole into it. He decided to give it to the older guy. As the ride progresses, I guess this annoyed drunk guy #1. He began berating the guy for not letting a woman sit (no woman even approached the seat). At one point, a young woman kind of stood between them and tried to calm the situation and asked the guys to leave the older guy alone. She got off at 14th St. and it was still going on. The entire ride, these two assholes screamed and yelled about how this guy was a douche bag, a cocksucker. The older guy finally speaks up and tells them to go away. He has an accent. That was it. They were practically in his face about how Americans give their seats to women (I have never witnessed this myself), then they start throwing beer on the older guy's newspaper as he's reading it. The funniest part was when Drunk #1 would scream "This is AMERICA!" Drunk #2 would chime in "AMERICA!!" Drunk #2 had a Spanish accent. Apparently, South America counts in this situation.
I got off the train at 36th St. to transfer but decided to walk up to the booth attendant first. I took note of the number of the car and reported it. Thankfully, he picked up the phone and called it in right away hopefully before it got to 59th St. These guys were looking for a fight and I can only imagine what it would have escalated to.

Hah, too lazy.
Fine, have it your way.

You are the salt of the earth. There should be more people like you.

While I'd normally be inclined to agree, I don't think the world is ready for more like me. I am too awesome. -

Shut up, you. -

For argument's sake-
South America would technically count.
Having a spanish accent would imply Spain- which would not be considered America or [n].
Feeble attempts at civility are bombastic, you came off pretentious, and ultimately squealed- its ok.
Brooklyn has changed and so those residing in it. -
No, having a Spanish accent would imply one speaks Spanish.
Yes, I "squealed" because pouring your beer on an old man who's doing nothing but reading the paper on his commute home and screaming in his face that he's a cocksucker and a fucking asshole while women, children and others are trying to get home from work is the American way, after all.
I'm glad you created this log in name just to be a jerk off. As usual. -
Ever notice how an English accent imputes England- not the US?
I created this log-in to reply- as a lurker i had no other choice. As usual.
I don't get it. But its cool. Just saying.
- Again.
Your attempt to make things right wasn't flawed or extraneous. Sharing the experience, while taking a despot approach to what American was, is, or who could be it- was. Me thinks. -
but really, where would the lounge be if not for the extraneous?

I'll add him to my legions of fans.

it's just the internet.

By the way....is there a Mexican accent or a Mexican language? Do you tell people from Mexico that they speak Mexican? Or do people from Mexico speak something...oh, I don't know...like Spanish?
-
Spanglish.
-
Just stop.
It's not that serious, really.
-If pedestrian #2 was in fact Mexican or assumed to be [by you, again] then perhaps addressing him as such would have been more specific.
Still- he would have been American, would still not have a Spanish accent but a Mexican one and you'd probably still care to save face way more than you should.
Hypocrisy in the guise of civility- blogs. -
dude, i hate to be the voice of reason here, but you're BOTH right.
bkChimp -- your terminology is what i grew up with
beave -- your terminology seems to be the dominant one in new york, where dominicans call their restaurants "spanish" and a hefty number of spanish-speaking peoples call themselves "spanish" (rather than hispanic or some other umbrella term) when not specifying their (or their progenitors') country of origin.
i don't think hypocrisy enters into this situation at all, though.
now go out and play before i have to make a mod note about not fighting in the house. -
Well it's sooooo obvious that the real issue here is whether or not Protagonist #2 was Spanish, Dominican, Mexican, or Puerto Rican. It has nothing to do with the fact that two young, healthy, drunk males were menacing a much older man who was merely sitting down after a long day with his paper. It has nothing to do with the two jerks spewing hate on a train populated with the women they were so gallantly trying to obtain seats for or their children who sat gaping wide eyed and asking their mothers what a cocksucker is.
-
Can we move on before there's more fighting? Let it go.

And for the record, like Sweettea, I was asking everyone, not singling anyone out. to chill. Brooklynian board rules, we must abide. -

i only recently noticed this thread but want to point out that
you should not have called the proper authorities
the proper action would have been to follow them home find out where they work and begin slandering their respective places of employ here on the brooklynian.
sarcasm off (and not directed at you anyways)
by the way, the wife still wont let me date, but im making progress... -
