good apartment rental resources/brokers in the neighborhood?
i was wondering if anyone has had good experiences with any real estate agents in the neighborhood? i am looking for a new place and it seems like craigslist is pretty dead as far as brooklyn listings. (doesn't have to be just CH, though I currently live here and like it, I am open to other neighborhoods!)

Whats wrong with craigslist? Not enough listings?

I moved recently (Feb '09) and found my apartment through rapidnyc.com. When I first moved to Brooklyn in March 2007, I had used rent-direct, but liked Rapid NYC as I didn't have to pay any fees to join and found an apartment with no broker fees too. Some of the listings have broker fees, but you can ask to see only the no-fees. Good luck!

yeah, craigslist seems to not have many listings right now. I check every day and keep seeing the same apartments listed over and over. I will check out rapidnyc thanks.

you may want to check this yelp review first - i saw it a while ago and it discouraged me from using rapidnyc. although it appears that since i looked a bunch of positive reviews have been added. it seems very polarized, people offering either 1 star and extreme hatred or 4/5 stars and great experiences. just something to think about!
i recently dealt with myspacenyc, they work with some landlords in the area and offer no fee listings, it worked well for me. -
zpants -- is myspacenyc the place on franklin ave near park? i was trying to figure out what they did...
-
yeah, they're a real estate group. really really nice looking office.

rapid realty is a scam. i guarantee it. and any of the good reviews are shills. they have tons of employees so it wouldn't be too hard for each of them to write a fake one, and run a two-week real estate program, which speaks to the "experience" of their agents. they got me an apartment in boro park, but it was a big headache, considering they didn't tell the landlord, or ask what price she wanted, or know when it was available...

Well, I am not shilling for rapid realty. I would be more than happy to provide more information for you if you would like to PM me. I truly had a good experience with them. I saw a sign on the street and started perusing their website. True, they are not the most organized, but I feel lucky that we found our landlord and I love my apartment. Before I moved to the city from Michigan in 2007, I used to use ArdorNY.com to see what apartments were available and what prices were. Ardor was my favorite "browsing" website, but their staff was slow to respond when I tried to see apartments. Again, Rent-Direct was the original site we used, but I didn't like their selection of apartments this time around so I wasn't going to pay the initial fee.

We are looking for someone to take over the lease on our 1-bdrm on Bedford and St. Johns (we have 30 days left--then you could sign a new lease w/ the landlord). We're moving to a bigger apt. in the neighborhood.
Our landlord is very cool and the space is great for one person or a couple.

Subject: apartment above me is empty...
the woman who lived above me just died...carroll between washington and franklin...oh, and it's rent stabalized... -
hey everyone, yes I second this question. I was initially into Prospect Heights, but now am not coming across any listings that isnt CH. So I wanted to inquire about this area, Crown Heights, and yes any realtors or brokers would be awesome to hear about.
Personally, I have spoken with rapidrealty, they have been alright, but slow to return back to me, and CL has a bunch or re listed listings everyday for this area too:/ bummer. -
Also, someone on another forum, gave me 2 great blogs about prospect Lefferts, are there any online about Crown Heights?

Subject: good brokers?
I had a great experience with MYSPACENYC. They have the sort of non-discript office on Franklin & Park. They ONLY do no-fee rentals so they're not as shady as Rapid. A few of the agents know the Prospect Heights/Crown Heights border really well. I think they also have a lot of stuff in Bushwick too. Although thats not really my bag. -
I've found all of my apartments by walking neighborhoods and look for "for rent" signs.
