how is ebbets field apartments and surrounding area
hello,
used to live in brooklyn. ...in sunset park in a brownstone. liked it well enough.
thinking of moving back to brooklyn. and for what i can afford have stumbled upon the ebbets field apart building a couple of times and was curious about it.
if you google it. all you get is 2-3 year old times articles bemoaning the loss of the dodger nostalgia... with a dash of scary crime info.
wondering if that's how it still is. or what's the deal on the building. have rising rents cleaned it up a bit. or is it still drug dealers and mentally unstable people... all of whom know nothing about the dodgers?
any advice would be appreciated. just in general looking for opinions on the state of that general area... crown heights/lefferts... or basically aparts that side of the park.
thanks to any replies.

Eh- it's not great, but from what I hear- the views are crazy beautiful. I mean, yea, it's still a little sketchy, IMO. It's an enormous building, so you're going to get all kinds living there, not just crazies and dealers- families and working types. I live not too far (6/7 blocks, on same side of EP), and the nabe has definitely gotten better over the years, no doubt, but that building is still....eh.
I think you could find something in the area that's reasonable and better than Ebbets. -
Isn't it NYCHA?
...or some variety of long waiting list affordable housing? -
No its not nycha, its leased owned by people of the jewish persuasion, who also own the Patio Gardens at 580/590 Flatbush. great sized apartments / great views / hit or miss neighbors/ Of course they gotta get you for an additional fee so you gotta go thru their agent - abba realty- to rent the apartmnet.
I lived in the patio gardens/ 15th floor looking north over the park & botanical. had 18 feet of windows in the living room seeing all the view. did all my own renovations and it was great. (then I bought a building) Its not so great for the not so handy. but they are renovating - you will pay for it- but I loved my apartment. huge closets, views and garage in the basemetn. -
the actual buildings seem mad shady but the associated supermarket across the street and the laundromat next door are some of the best in the 'hood.
The neighborhood has calmed down a TON in the 8 years we've lived here, though the bodega on the east side of the street just south of EP, which you'll walk by daily to get to the train, is still low-level-dealer central.
Howdy, Stranger!
