Tamari closed
Yesterday I found out a Japanese restaurant at Union st. and 5th avenue, called "Tamari," has closed! It was so sudden I could not even go last time before it was closed....It was one of my best favorite Japanese restaurant in the neighborhood. I wish they are moving & re-opening somewhere...Anybody know what happened?

they were probably not able to stay in business because there are about 55 other japanese restaurants within a 10 block radius.
just a guess. -
I know, it's almost ridiculous how many there are, but Tamari was one of the few authentic, home-style Japanese food restaurant, it's too bad it's gone...

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!! Somebody tell me they are just on summer vacation please! I've been out of town . . . -
Very sad.......I think that more people have to know which place serve REAL JAPANESE FOOD. Then real one don't have to close.

I know Kappa Sake House (former Sakura, on 5th av.) is one of them, and Blue Ribbon Sushi (though rather pricy)...

That sucks...Tamari was one of the better sushi places.

Except that Tamari has been replaced by a sushi joint.
just a guess. -
That's a shame. I never had any problems with Tamari and enjoyed a few things on Tamari's menu I haven't found at other Japanese restaurants. I confess I ordered more frequently from Kiku than Tamari.
If Tamari went out of business and needed help, had I known I would have ordered from them more often. -

I tried it. Meh.
That new sushi joint - Sushi Ya - is seriously mediocre, of the watery miso soup and watery carrot ginger dressing variety. It's a real shame. It's just like one of the dozen mediocre sushi joints on 5th Ave now.
Howdy, Stranger!
