neighborhood question — Brooklynian

neighborhood question

edited November -1 in Park Slope
so my friend was telling me that his friend is having a party in "Park Slope," on 23rd St. between 3rd and 4th. Obviously something here struck me as wrong, but I couldn't tell him what neighborhood that really is. I know people here tend to be pretty neighborhood-name savvy (I also know that neighborhood names are pretty silly since it's all Brooklyn, I just hate when people use the name of the neighborhood they'd rather be in instead of the one they're in).
Is that Sunset Park? I hear a lot of people throwing "South Slope" around these days, is that there?

  • Take your pick:

    South Slope
    Sunset Park
    Greenwood Heights

Though choosing #3 will probably invite castration (just read the archives on chowhound.com), I have heard the area to which you refer called all of the above at one time or another.
  • Sunset Park

South Slope and Greenwood heights are realtor terms.
  • I thought that was the Gowanus area. Doesn't Sunset start on 39th or 40th?
  • Kind of murky, but definitely NOT Park Slope and not South Slope either.

    Decent Neighborhood map here:

    http://www.nyc.gov/html/dcp/html/neighbor/neigh.shtml
  • I always did, and still call it Park Slope - to me Sunset Park starts at 34th Street. Im sure some of us still call is South Brooklyn. If it was a couple avenues up I might have said Windsor Terrace
  • When I lived on 22nd between 7th and 8th, my roommates and I always referred to it as The Buttcrack of Greenwood. Does that help?
  • If you look at that map, my in-laws until recently lived in #15, in that big 'ol unnamed void bordered by Marine Park, Gravesend, Sheepshead Bay and Manhattan whatever. The area never had a "name" as such - at least according to them and other neighborhood denizens, but this situation could not be tolerated by the local realtors. So they came up with this: Victorian Flatbush. I hope they didn't spend too much money on focus groups and stuff.
  • Sunset Park
    Greenwood Heights

i go with either one of these! but never park slope.

when i was trying to find something in park slope like 4 years ago to buy. the realtor try to sell me that area is park slope and i'm like dude! i make a living driving folks things around nyc and i lived here for over 20 years. its not freaking park slope!
  • I already put in my two cents on this, so i'm just here to say this:

Big ups to the BIG BLACK!!!
  • Can we come to the party?
  • shouldn't some mod move this post to the PS board? or are we all trying to avoid anonymous guest posting?!
  • Subject: Skateboard Park

I'm just wondering if the party is being held at what was once an
indoor skateboard park that closed. I heard that two entrepreneurs
took it over and are using it as a venue to have parties. Is this
    the place?

Nice! I bet pensodyssey can get behind that one!
  • That's Sunset Park. Greenwood Heights is closer to the cemetery.
