How Long Before I Got Arrested?
I'm wondering how long it would take for the police or park patrol to show up and arrest me if I were to ride my bike in the jogging/running lane in Prospect Park with the same "screw you" attitude that joggers and walkers take when they commandeer the cycling lane?
I'm dead serious. Why is it that in the hours that cars are allowed in Prospect Park some of the walkers/joggers and runners still feel that they have the right to the cycling lane?
Will it take having to knock one or two of them down in order to send a message? I know that sounds extreme but when the walkers/joggers and runners take over the cycling lane in the areas where there is little or no buffer zone between the cyclists and the cars it is extremely dangerous for the cyclists.
Now I'm not talking about the times when a faster person has to go around a slower person on the inside lane I'm talking about the people who camp out in the cycling lane like it's their God given right to be there and to hell with everyone else.
If I, as a cyclist, tried to ride in the walking lane with that attitude I don't think I'd get more than a few hundred feet before all hell broke loose.

i cant feel pity for you since you bicyclists do the same thing to us drivers.
But at least you know how we feel and why some of us buy pickup trucks with crash guards

I don't think you would have even a remote chance of being arrested. I don't think anything would even happen. This is just New York - similar to people blocking the subway doors, getting on the subway before people get off, texting while walking, etc. People can be inconsiderate, and almost all lines on roads or sidewalks are ignored. Just adapt and do the same thing. If the pedestrian lane is open, ride in it. Everyone can go f*&^ themselves.

I want crash guards for my car. WHOO!!

One of the problems is that the walking/jogging lane has several places where it's flooded or hard to walk in. The rest I can't find a decent excuse for.

OMG, it's like joggers/runners feel they have some divine right. I mean, in Prospect Park when cars are allowed there is always a handful of joggers/runners totally oblivious to the world around them, running with their iPods in the bike lane.
But what gets my goat is the joggers/runners on the Brooklyn Bridge They just run into the bike lane without looking. They think the white line is the joggers/runners lane. Some even go so far as to run in the edge of the bike lane, as if it's not already narrow enough.
I think there should be jogging/running hours for the Brooklyn Bridge. Really, it's not like the joggers/runners are going anywhere. -
While I have a more sympathy for the joggers than those who think Prospect Park is the site of the Tour de France, I agree that it all would work better if we all just stuck to where we're supposed to be.

Tell that to the three or so powerwalking housewives/nannies/girlfriends who need both lanes and don't even care about oncoming traffic no matter who it is.
Also, why is the bike lane on Eastern Parkway ALWAYS the pedestrian lane for everyone? Nobody ever walks on the right side.
Howdy, Stranger!
