Lucali's opening in Park Slope
Subject: Lucali's opening in "Park Slope"
Let's try not to have the "this is CLEARLY not Park Slope" argument...But, I found this today. I would love it:

I should add, for the record, that I was entirely underwhelmed with Lucali's. Every time I eat a slice from one of these uber-trendy $35 pie places, I am reminded of how great Anthony's on 7th is.
That being said, would still be good to have an option for out-of-towners. -
I saw this too - it's so close to Toby's.
I can't remember - is Lucali's by the slice or whole pie? I would love a good slice place we are getting better with whole pie options now (Anthony's, Enzo's, Toby's). -
It is whole pies that cost like $35 for one topping. (not exaggerating).
-
i'll pay whatever they cost. this place is amazing.
hope the rumor is true. -
Pizza is totally worth it, LOVE Lucali's . Seem to recal is was less than $35, did they raise the price recently?
And, I rather they didn't expand. I want my pizza made by that gorgeous hunk of man, no one else.
EDIT to add. Ehem. Pizza is only $18 and is feeds 2 hungry people. 3 people if you are not a glutton like me.

Um, that location in the article is where I go for PT. I wonder if it's another spot there--there are a couple of restaurant spaces across the street that are in and out of business.
-
You got me excited Mpmav1 - I thought this was going to be in Park Slope!
 -
it does seem like an odd spot for it.
surprised they don't go for someplace with a tad more foot traffic. -

That menu pages is a lie. I went there on March 14th... the pies start at $26.00 with no toppings. $3.00 a topping. So, for our pizza with basil, it was $29. So I guess I should have said $35-$36 with tip no drinks.

You are correct, however, that the pie feeds 2 hungry people!
For me, if it was the most amazing pizza I ever had, that would be one thing. But really, I was quite disappointed. I found the pie to be greasy. But, everyone seems to rave about this place... so I am in the minority. -
Last time i was there it was cheap, $18 sounds right. Plus BYOB. That was around January. So maybe they raised their prices. It's odd that they'd practically double it. :-k
I'll try to go this week and report back. -
I would love it if they turned out not to be $26 to start.
Did you go for dinner? Maybe they have a different lunch price. (ours was definitely dinner).
I forgot about the BYOB... that's always a plus.
We'll also have to see if they adjust the price for a new location (ie: Hanco's jacking up their Park Slope location prices). -
the best pizza in the city is undoubtedly L'asso on the corner of kenmare and mott streets.
-
"Hanco's jacking up their Park Slope location prices"
they are 75 cents more in park slope. that's "jacking up?" in your book? considering the rent is probably double in ps, it sounds fair to me.
and i've never known menupages to "lie." -

ok, a few things: first off, originally, they were $7 ($1.25 more expensive).

Plus, they increased their Cobble Hill location prices by something like 50 cents about a week or so after the Park Slope location opened. (I work next to the Cobble Hill one... and go there all the time). Thus, when originally opened, you are looking at $1.75 more than Cobble Hill... or something like 30% higher (right? I am the first to admit I do not know math). AND, you are right... they have to pay for increased rent. REGARDLESS, it is still more expensive than their other location.
OK, I'm sorry for saying "lie." RATHER, "misinform". And yes, this happens. I'm sure they are not jumping to updated menupages since they increased their prices. There is no doubt in my mind that we paid $26 to start in March. -
I'm always happy for new retail/eating action is South Slope. But I'm just being selfish. $35/pie seems a bit outrageous, but we'll see. I happen to love that little retail area of Greenwood Hts... I was bummed when Kitchen Bar closed up shop, so it will be nice to see a new establishment.
Btw, Anthony's? Ick. Loved it when I first went there a few yrs ago, but the quality has gone in the toilet IMHO. Pizza was just ok and the pasta was flavorless. -

Really?!?! I love their margarita pie. I never get anything else... so you may very well be right about the pasta. Plus their service is great. -
Totally serious. I was so bummed too bc I was psyched to have moved so close to Anthony's and then totally let down when our dinner was so uninspiring. Our neighbors ate there a few days before and reported terrible pasta too. I love me a good pizza, but I would TOTALLY get a pie from Friend's before ever going back to ANthony's.

I can't do Friends since seeing their health department score... that killed it for me. -
i find anthony's to be horrendous, personally.
the pie's at lucali's are $24. toppings are $3.
they are definitely expensive (although i don't find $12 a person too much for dinner), but worth it for those who love it.
clearly they are doing well enough that they feel comfortable expanding to a spot which will involve people seeking the place out. -
But they have one of the best scores in the Slope!

Friend's has a score of 4 (out of 175). Al Di La, by comparison, has a score of 27 (just one shy of a required compliance inspection) -
Never heard of them and at least the article says South Slope.

No, $12 a person for dinner is cheap, but $12 a person for pizza is kinda pricey, but, if they are brick oven, I will check them out.

artichoke on a Lucali pie =$8 , 1 dollar bottle charge a beer if you are bringing your own.
-
the important news here is that Di Fara is back open. that link to "Di Fara is Temporarily Down" gave me a scare!

huh. must of been an old inspection. Good to know, however, that they have stuff together now.

Best NY PIZZA:
1)DIFARA's (but the wait and disorganization makes it almost a tie with...
2)ARTICHOKE pizza on 14th in NYC (same great "square" pie taste)
3)LUCALI'S (since Mark studies Dom's techniques I'd say PS would be damn lucky if he opened a spot).
I never get toppings on my pizza so the $26 price is fine- especially when it's BYOB. And their calzones are incredible.
I, for one, welcome our new pizza overlords.
Anthony's is fine but Lucali's will blow them out of the water. -
I just walked past the intersection and the PT place, Slope Sports, does not look like it's going, but there is construction in the empty lot next to it. I can't keep up with their open/close status, but the Kitchen Bar and Bar BQ/Safe Haven spots are pretty small and I didn't see any signs about changes in the windows.
Also, there's a pizza place on 6th Ave a block or two north of the cemetery--anybody eaten there? Seems like the two "brick-oven" places will be mighty close to each other. -
it's never going to be close to Di Fara level, but I actually think La Villa makes really awesome pizza. It looks sort of like an Olive Garden in there, but the pizza is pretty good. Franny's is pretty great also. I just wish there were a good place for slices. (Pizza Plus is ok, but they only sell slices til like 5 anyways.)
-
That pizza place is Toby's. It's also a bar. I like it. The pies are pretty good, but you need a whole one to yourself and it gets pricey.
-
also - there is a new coal oven place called Anselmo's (hopefully no relation to Phil) on Van Brunt in Red Hook that is pretty good.
