Can anyone recommend mover for SMALL, local (Brooklyn) move?

We are moving 2 blocks from our current place. We have a one-bedroom apt., so not a lot of furniture, but it is 3 flights up + 2 flights at new apt.

Can anyone recommend a mover for a small move? We basically need 2 guys with a small van/truck and dolly for about 2-3 hours.

Even if they have no vehicle, it's OK--I can get an SUV from Zipcar.

Any advice or tips would be most welcome!

Thanks!

  • the board's resident man with van is Armchair Warrior.
  • Armchair comes highly recommended, but I'm not sure he actually does that much lifting...

there's been a few of these threads in the past, as you can imagine...do a search for Moving
  • I used Wong movers - I moved to the next block. They were fabulous and the whole job was done in under 2 hours. They gave me a fixed price so there were no surprises (they ask you questions first about what you are moving....how many boxes, beds, etc.) and I managed to negotiate down from there.

I found them on this board.....I don't have the number handy, but you can find them using a search of the site
  • I used Wong too, and they were fantastic. It seems a little shady at first (leave a message on what is obviously a cellphone, someone calls you back, they aren't insured, they keep talking about tips, etc.) but I was very satisfied. The only thing that broke was something that I had packed in a stupid way.
  • I had good luck with Moving Your Way moving from one nabe to another.
  • I found Rabbit Movers to be a great deal for the level of service. Found them on Yelp. They'll give you a free estimate.
