Men's (Rockport) shoes in the slope? — Brooklynian

Men's (Rockport) shoes in the slope?

Subject: Men's (Rockport) shoes in the slope?

I am looking for a pair of casual men's shoes, preferably Rockports, in the slope. I really, really, really do not want to end up at Macy's or in Bay Ridge today.

Anyone know of a store in or close to the Slope?

Comments

  • not sure you'll find rockports, but soula shoes on 5th near berkeley has a great selection of mens shoes.
  • Not the Slope, but I am pretty sure Windsor Shoes in Windsor Terrace (just the other side of the movie theater), carries that brand. Give them a call and find out:

Windsor Shoes 233 Prospect Park West, 718-369-2192
  • cool, thanks, I lived on that corner for a few years and can't even visualize that store!
  • Really? It has been there a loooong time, it used to be one store that carried kids and adult shoes. now that spot is only the adult shoes and the kid's shoe store has moved a few stores down.

    Here's a picture, it's pretty hard to miss;

  • wow, now I remember!

So odd that I never went in.

I was a regular at the Italian style deli on that side.

    I love this shoe store.
If they don't have a shoe in your size they will order it and have it there for you in afew days. The brands are "good" shoes and the service is attentive, not pushy and a lesson in great customer service.
  • The DSW at Atlantic Center definitely has several varieties of Rockports.
  • DSW will not have your size.

I say this without knowing his size because they never have my exotic size 8.
  • The Atlantic Center really sucks! It's always crazy crowded...

Take the 4/5 to Fulton and go to Century 21 Shoes. Seriously, I've gotten some great shoes there. And if you go now, it's not the busy.
  • Oh, and it's only a few stops from PS.

They almost always have my size 12. Most people don't have little pygmy feet, whynot!
  • Atlantic Center sucks. ....perhaps because so many people have average size feet (like size 8), they are always out.

According to this site, only 15% of men have shoe size 8 (UK size 7) or smaller, putting it more than a standard deviation below average. To put that in perspective, the 15%ile of American men's height is 5'6".
  • Carnivore sent me a website that caters to Vegans?

ok, even if the vegans are right about me having small feet ...DSW should be able to stock a size 8.

P.S. This site is completely wrong. Their is actually an inverse correlation in my case. http://www.i18nguy.com/l10n/shoes-anatomy.html
  • Thanks all for your ideas.

Here is my day in chronological order:

Windsor Shoes - only women's shoes, they couldn't remember ever selling men's shoes.

Soula on 5th Ave - very expensive, hipster shoes, I like meat and potatoes shoes.

DWS - not crowded, awesome selection of shoes, everything in my size (size 10), and one helpful shoe guy. Got Rockports and Asics.
  • I ♥ DSW.
  • DSW was great - I can't believe I never knew about it. So was Century 21 for shoes (not sneakers) a few years ago, but now they seem to get the leftovers. The DSW shoes, at least for men, were solid. They had only 4-5 styles of Rockports, but they were all wearable, not like at Century 21 where you have to wade through I dare say some silly shoes. I also saw many other brands of men shoes that would have worked well too.

Oh shoot, sorry about Windsor shoes, never realized they didnt carry men's shoes, guess being a woman, i never noticed, sorry about that! Glad you got your shoes though

    Size 8 in men's? That's a small shoe size for a guy.
  • Try a size 6... double E no less!!

Almost impossible to find shoes in my size.

Have you tried Zappos? They carry a lot of hard to find sizes
  • I have. I purchased two precious (because since discontinued) pair of Bally dress shoes from the site. It is amazing... the shoes were delivered less than 24 hours after I ordered them.

Now all I can find are limited selections of Rockports, Florsheim, Bostonian and Johnston & Murphy.

As our population grows taller I find it more and more difficult to dress myself.

Oh well, perhaps I can skip down the yellow brick road in a future remake of Wizard of Oz!
  • I adore Zappos. I even got a hand-written thank you card from one of their agents who spent over 30 minutes searching for the right pair of shoes (I would approve or disapprove with comments like: too granola, too slutty, those look like plastic, just like that but without the buckle). She was incredibly patient.

I also think they have little faeries who deliver shoes in less than a day to my house.
