Weird woodworking shop on 7th Ave/16th St
Has anyone else noticed the storefront on 7th Ave btw 15th and 16th that has been in a perpetual state of woodworking madness? It looks like it might one day be a shop or some retail place, but all I've ever seen is people sawing and cutting wood. If you glance inside, it looks like some amateur carpenter had a seizure all over the place... there's a stairway trimmed in wood with mirror infill, for godssakes! The security bars on the doors are shaped like little musical notes too.
My favorite part is that the front doors are propped open with boards that have Sharpie scrawl on them in Spanish that reads "I made 20 others like this for Jesus" or some such craziness.
WTF?!

cool...I'm sure I've passed it a million times. -
I saw this last night at around 9 - really wild! Is it a shop? Is it a home? No way to tell.

That actually looks like the apartment my child's piano teacher lived in a few years ago, it's hard to tell from that pic, but, I think it is. Take a better pic today prez!

as someone who owns a table saw, router, biscuit joiner, jig saw, circ saw, 3 drills, miter saw, scroll saw, etc
...I can assure you that woodworkers are uniformly odd.
but we are harmless. -
It's supposed to eventually be a Brazilian/South American art cafe with music.

I'll likely be unemployed in the fall, and might end up pursuing my carpenter fantasies while "racking in" unemployment. So, yea, make that list -
got a picture of the actual house? That definitely looks to be the apartment I am talking about, if it is, then it has been empty for 2 years now at least.

hmmmmm.......no idea....next time I am able to go by, I will check it out
-
I cannot remember if it was Brownstoner or where that posted that it was going to be a Brazilian art/music/food place, but that is definitely the place.

Here's the place in Google Street View

Yep, that is it, very odd that it is going from an apartment to a whatever. Also very odd that it is taking so long!

A restaurant? Seriously?...haven't they been working on that space for like 2 years?
-
this does not bode well for how long it will take to serve a meal.

Yes they have, LOL! Because, it has been empty since my friend moved out and bought an apartment somewhere else and that that must have been 2, 2 1/2 years ago. -
They're also doing some *seriously* freaky construction on the back of the building too... a cinderblock and steel addition that would not look out of place in rural El Salvador.

Dear lord...why not just get a barrel and some matches and just toss the money in?
Howdy, Stranger!
