August day camp
Hi, everyone!
I am looking for a relatively inexpensive (ha!) day camp that runs at least most of the month of August for my precocious (but, of course!) daughter who will be entering seventh grade. Ideally, the camp would be based in "brownstone" Brooklyn or lower Manhattan and would have at least some arts programming.
Alternately, a two-week sleep away camp would be an option if I can get my separation anxiety under control.
Clues anyone?
Thanks.

Camp Olympia still has August spots open and they are only $170 per week (lunch included). But, it is a 100% sports camp, they do nothing else but sports and swimming, you will not see an arts and crafts project in site.
My youngest will be going for 2 weeks in August, I think this wil be his third year with them. He used to go to their swimming classes when he was 4 and they taught him how to swim -
You can try Park Slope Day Camp. They have a PS location, one in WT and a third in Bay Ridge. Its not the cheapest day camp, but they have a variety of options.
Not in Brownstone Brooklyn, but Poly Prep runs a pretty nice performing arts camp on their Bay Ridge Campus. They have drama and dance as the primary activities although there may be some visual arts as well. Its a bit pricey, but I hear their camps are great. -
Park Slope Day Camp while a great camp, is far from inexpensive. My kids used to go there until their prices got so high that it became unaffordable for us. they are a good camp though.
The other problem is it is now mid July and a lot of camps are full for August at this point, but, give them all a try -
The Abrons Arts Center at Henry Street Settlement on the Lower East Side has an inexpensive, high quality architecture/arts day camp starting August 3rd. Here's a link:

The only camp I enjoyed as a kid was Berkely Carroll's. It is pricey, but they must offer scholarships. I was 12 when I went to BC, and I was a precocious kid who thought I was too old for camp and LOATHED every single camp I had ever attended. BC was more like an art school than a day camp. They have so many awesome classes in music and art (but also the traditional camp stuff like swimming and other sports if you want). The best part is kids can choose their own schedules. Anyway, check out their web site:

Berkeley Carroll's camp ends at the end of July, but check out www.bayridgesportscamp.com, not sure how great the theatre part of it is but the sports side is great for boys, they have cheap transport (pick up and drop off at your home) and its really reasonable (about 50% of Berk Carroll, including transportation).
