Too many pet shops?

I went to that one last week. Very nice store, people and selection. I think I've been in them all in this neighborhood and can't decide. I imagine the pet supply business does very well.
-
i go to the one on 5th Avenue btwn 2nd & 3rs Streets just because they are so close to me. But, their prices are also decent and they are very nice in there, will special order things for you, save things for you, etc. etc..
-
The poll should include price. I do go to some places because I like the people, others for convenience, but whenever I have time, I shop by price. When I visit my mom in the suburbs, I stock up on stuff at Pet Smart and litter at Costco
-
Agreed with flexichick- i travel to the burbs for work and buy all of my pet supplies at petco. $9 for the same food that costs me $14 here, and clearance toys and pet clothes (shuttup) that you won't find anywhere here.

There are not too many pet shops, there are too many pet supply shops. Lotsa places to buy dog food, but I had to go to Manhattan to buy a gerbil.
-
What annoys me is that with all of these pet stores, none of them sell live food!
I still have to go to stupid PetLand for worms and such for my lizard! Ticks me off -
How much do worms cost? I know that Shannon's nursery sells worms for $10 a bag. I'm not sure how many worms there are for $10 (I have some in my garden, but I need them for the soil).
-
Do you know what kind of worms they sell? I need mealworms and was worms, can't just be any old worm
-
I'm guessing they sell earthworms or nightcrawlers, not the wax or mealworms we need

I just wish Petland would sell them in ready-made containers like Petco. That way I can buy a 50 count (or more) and they have some substrate to keep them so I have meals for a couple of weeks for my gecko. -

They have no fur! -
shit...I'm not awake yet. For some reason I was thinking of gerbils (because they are mentioned above).
Please ignore all posts before noon :-)
I remember your little hyphenated country lizard! -

I agree, whenever I go to see my MIL, we will stop at the petco out by her (Avenue Y) and buy a container of each worm.

I agree, price is by far the most important factor. I will drag a 16 pound of food on the subway since the Union Square Petco is cheaper than any local place by far. -
Right now my babies are on a veterinary diet, but for all other items (toys, catnip) I only shop at NYC Pet (formerly VC Pet) on 9th Street between 4th & 5th. Michael is so knowledgeable about animals and knows my cats. If they were on regular food, I would do all my shopping there (even though they're not the closest to me anymore)
-
Before the one on 5th Avenue near my house opened, that is the pet store I went to also. Love Michael! My cat is on prescription food and a couple of years ago when there was the pet food scare, I was making all my animals homemade food, I went to Michael for advice on what to make for my cat who has urinary issues and he was extremely helpful. Love him!
Now that I am thinking about it, I should go to them again and stop being so lazy by using the one right by my house.
But, when oh when will someone sell live food???? -
i go to the NYC Pet store on 5th at Union. I work near Union Sq. but the Petco or whatever there is $7 more for a bag of Solid Gold food than at NYC Pet. I was surprised actually.
Howdy, Stranger!
