Neighborhood advice
Hello. I am new to the site and was hoping for some input. I am looking seriously at a 2 family brick home on 16th St bet 8th Ave & PPW (about 1/8 down the block from Farrell's) and very close to the much anticipated establishment on the corner (Double Windsor ?) It is very close to Prospect Park and the F train and these are very important items to me. I've driven the neighborhood extensively and it looks great (very much like traditional PS). Is there anything I should know -particularly a potential negative- before finalizing any decision. I am posting on the PS site and the WT site due to the proximity to both borders. A generalized critique of the area would be greatly appreciated. Also, is this area fully gentrified and where is it headed? Thank you much.

You have a car? That's good news since you would want to drive to better supermarkets. The closest one is Key Food which is mediocre at best.
The neighborhood itself is fully gentrified. You have black nannies pushing white babies in strollers, out-of-place luxury condos and Village Voice boxes. That's the peak of gentrification. -
Nice neighborhood...its not park slope (i mean that as a compliment), but close enough to partake in park slope amenities
the f train sucks....but that shouldn't stop you
and yes, shop at fairway for groceries
decent strip on PPW, but eventually you'll tire of it and will head over to 7th ave for more options
i would say its not fully gentrified...plenty of old timers still around, which in most cases is a good thing..but then you have some "archie bunkers" as well
welcome -
It's gentrified up to the gills, with some oldtime FDNY and NYPD and other such ilk hanging in there - mostly in the heart of Windsor Terrace. However there are a lot hipsters thinking they're slumming types as well. Also a little more in your face stuff - kooks, homeless and evildoers.

you may want to look at The Ruckus on 16th st , in the park slope forum.

The timing of all of this is unbelievable for me and very disturbing. I recently posted (pasted below) about my imminent move to this very block. IS THIS AN ANOMALY ON THIS BLOCK OR PAR FOR THE COURSE? Please provide objective input and again, thank you.

Why do you say that? I think it is as it is as I consider PPW as the boarder between PS and WT and Prospect Expressway the southern boarder of PS. The later could be debated but most everyone I know will support the former -

Par for the course. Your car WILL be vandalized, guaranteed. That's why we pay the highest car insurance rates in the country. There has been at least one murder in WT in recent memory. If you have a Honda Fit get wheel locks as they get stolen.
And you will need the car as there are no decent supermarkets, you have to go to Fairway in Red Hook (The Shop Rite at I and McDonald isn't bad and is next to a subway stop)
edit: just to be clear about the car stuff. It isn't constant, but, in 4 years I've replace my windshield once, outside mirror twice, been keyed a few times and had an attempted breakin to the car once with minor damage to the door and the rubber seal -

you may be right in terms of technical boundaries...but i figure anyone who is 1/2 a block from Farell's is in Windsor Terrace...or at most "south slope"...i wouldn't call it "park slope" -
It's windsor terrace.. jeeez..
