Tell me when they have Charles Nelson Reilly on board.

You mean my favorite bad guy as a kid is a Brooklynite? -
Nah, I was just trying (trying) to be funny, but I think he was born in Queens or the Bronx. I remember his Match Game stuff, I used to watch it with my Grandmother back when it was on 3 times a day.
I met him once, he was pretty cool. -

I looooved him in that morning show with the hats (hoot something or something like that). As I got older I always thought he would be fun to hang out with.

people, there are about 6 "celebs" on the DDDB board. the board is comprised of prominent Brooklynites (26 of the 33) who have contributed to the incredible evolution of the borough in the fields or journalism, fiction writing, filmmaking, art, architecture, home building, culture, music, acting, firefighting, teaching, preservation, business, religion, activism, citizenship, and politics. plus 7 from outside Brooklyn who have expertise in the issues raised by "Atlantic Yards."
naturally the press focusses on the stars, but check out the people on the board.

What happened to Sean Penn? And why isn't Artie Bucho on that list?

Artie Bucco (aka John Ventimiglia) is a major league knob. He just got busted for DUI and coke possession.
He's also not very nice. -
Heath Ledger lives in Brooklyn? Sigh... He's sooooo dreamy. anyone know where so I can stalk him?

somewhere in bococa. that's all I know. good luck! -
Too bad Phil Silvers is dead. He'd be a great board member for Develop Don't Destroy.
Other candidates (both living and dead) could include Fred "Rerun" Berry, John Holmes, Rick Springfield, Gary U.S. Bonds, Mac Davis, and Chuck Barris (former host of The Gong Show).
Seriously, they should court Esai Morales. He's got it all: good looks, Brooklyn-born, and a devotee of radical politics. -
Jose Feliciano!!

for me, mel blanc will always be the voice of brooklyn.

Funny, because Mel Blanc was born in San Francisco, made his bones in Portland, Ore., then moved to Los Angeles.
But that's not all, folks?
Of living actors ....
Mary Tyler Moore ...there's a Brooklyn voice.
But Brooklyn to me .... is Mel Brooks. -
Jackie Gleason and Babs. And Steve Schirripa.

some interesting names on the list, including jhumpa lahiri, brilliant writer and stunningly beautiful park slope resident (see "interpreter of maladies," a great short story collection), and clem labine, listed as a preservationist and, if you click to his web site, historic homes contractor, but better remembered around here as the great brooklyn dodgers pitcher (see "boys of summer" by roger kahn).
great to have them on our team. -

the building preservationist clem labine is NOT the same as the ex-dodger.
great to have them on our team.
there's apx. 20+ years in age difference between the two.
the dodger relief pitcher (native rhode islander b. 1926) played for the dodgers (starting in 1950), the tigers and pirates,, and was an original met in 1962, when he retired. this one lives in vero beach, fl. and is apx. 80 yrs old.
the preservationist labine has offices on 7th ave in pk slope.
ironic that the baseball labine is mentioned in atlantic yards fight, as site was proposed by despised (in brooklyn) dodger owner walter o'malley as site for a domed brooklyn dodgers stadium.
robt moses said no, move to flushing meadow.
by then secret dodger move to chavez ravine (another land grab) was no secret. (1957)
5 years later, the Mets were born. -
But Brooklyn to me .... is Mel Brooks.
And Eli Wallach.
The perfect Mel Brooks scene to encapsulate the attititude of the New York powerbrokers to the homeowners and taxpayers of Brooklyn is his take on Louis XVI enjoying a little trap shooting with peasants instead of clay pigeons as targets:
"They are my people. I love them. PULL!"
It's good to be the King. -

wow. who'd a thunk? how many brooklyn clem labines could there be? at least two i guess. any relation?
fortunately jhumpa lahiri is still jhumpa lahiri. -
There are two quintessential Brooklyn voices for me.
Biz Markie. Nobody beats the Biz. Nobody incorporated more references to the D train in their songs, either.
And...
Gilbert Gottfried!!
