sandwich guru huh? i'm not sure i feel comfortable with that title.

bklyn larder is my new favorite place around and i think they are a fantastic addition to the neighborhood. the staff there are some of the nicest and most courteous and knowledgeable people you'll find in any establishment of this kind.
the sandwiches and the gelato are to die for. so are some of the prepared items and the meat and cheese selections are excellent and reasonably priced, i think. i haven't tried the sausages yet, but they look great.
they also press their own olive oil, which i bought and love.
i live much closer to blue apron than to bklyn larder, but they've converted me. i'm impressed.
(i've also brought quite a few people there who have been visiting from manhattan, and they practically wanted to move to park slope after experiencing bklyn larder. no joke) -
Let me preface this review by acknowledging that making your way in the world today takes everything you got… and with the immortal words of MC Hammer – “alright stop, Sammie time”.
Has Reis 100 reinvented the wheel? Are there really 100 sammies to choose from? Does Carmen hate Bar Reis with the passion of a coked up Mel Gibson in Braveheart? The answer, sadly, is no. She merely “sorta hates” the place.
Well, I sorta hate all bars about the same. Crowded with drunks trying to hit on my underage girlfriend, 500% markup on drinks, cocktails with attitude… If I appear to be contradicting previous bar praises then fine - contradicted.
The review: Bar Reis is one of the bars that I sorta hate the least. I don’t mind surly bartenders and dubious service – it’s a bar. The drinks are $1 or $2 less than anywhere else (fuck U. Sam, cash only), a top 3 slope backyard, pool, and a crowd that isn’t thuggish, overly hipster, too underage, or too fucking preppy/white/buzzed cut/polo ignorant punk that I want to punch as soon as I see them.
And now you can get a Sammie at the bar – late night (or next door starting Thursday). Honestly people, it’s a Sammie (ex: 2 parts bread, something in middle). It’s a small (albeit absolutely delicious) Sammie. I’m no expert but the ingredients are top notch and the sammies are thoughtful in their combinations. I would bet Flexi’s well worn leotard AND armchairs refresh button that when your paying $5 -$7 for a drink, and when you’ve had 2 or 3, that you will be delighted to have a $3 sammie (or two) delivered to your barstool.
I’m not going into an opinionated details based discussion on taste preferences. There are close to 100 sammie combos – unique and compelling combos… comparing Reis 100 sammies to a $5 (if you could find that price) deli slop is like comparing a Park Slope child’s poop to that of a rodent or donkey… or to a camera phone pic of a junkie masturbating. One is a disgusting inevitability of life, the other smells and tastes like fresh baked heaven.
PS: Flexi – I didn’t have the bacon, onions, etc Sammie. It sounded too delectable to be true and I didn’t want to bias this review. -

hmmmm.....while i give props to DR for getting down there and giving a review, I am sad to think that he was afraid of the delectableness that is gruyere, bacon and onions. Looks like I'll have to wait. Sigh.
btw, Bar Reis WAS really thuggy for a while - did the crowd change? Must I try again? -

Bar reis is nowhere near as thuggish as it was 4-7 years ago. Like night and day really. Perhaps a function of the changing neighborhood or the owners preferences, but the place leans toward the whatever a yuppie is these days/preppy/hipster...
The sammies are about this size of a twinke or a little bigger. From a straight up nutritional/caloric intake point of view they are akin to the mass of a slice of pizza - in this writer's opinion this makes the price point of $3 about right. -

Looking for a different take-out wife & I bought 8 of the $3.50 sandwiches last night, bulk priced 4 for $12. Loved em! And it was too much food for us, I brought the lox & red cabbage to work for b'fast this morning. We'll be going back. Only worry... no one else in store while I was there. Hope they're doing okay.

Summer time is not a good time to open a food business in NY IMO, so many people who would normally go to places like this are out of town. And, the location of this place makes it great for the middle school kids to go and buy lunch there, but, alas, school is out.

- everyone I've spoken/observed eating those sammies have kinda loved them - dats a fact
- They sold out of sammies like 3 or 4 of the first 7 days there were open... whether that's a lack of planning (although I do know they planned to sell a shit load of sammies) or some other phenomenon I do not know.
Those are facts. I would opine that LTS hasn't even eaten there. Whether my opinion is accurate - it is a fact that I rather dislike people who throw retarded stones at houses they haven't even eaten sandwiches at (RDPWTRSAHTHEESA). -

I just heard about this place yesterday - sounds great to me.
LTS, it doesn't particularly sound like a place for school kids. Summer is a great time to get your sh*t together at a new restaurant, and (god help me) Staycations do seem to be happening. That and vast unemployment leaving the creative professional class of PS trolling for sandwiches with their beer.

You are a nasty piece of work. First of all, get off your high horse, it is common practice to use abbreviations on the internet, age has nothing to do with it. This doesn't need to be a text message for abbreviations to be used.
Secondly, I was not putting this place down, just commenting on the fact that I think it is a bad idea to open a food establishment in the summer. I never said this place in particular was bad, nor did I ever insinuate that. How was I throwing stones at this establishment in any shape or form? I was just commenting on another posters remark that the place was empty when he went there, that is all!
I am so sick and tired of being jumped on for having an opinion on anything around here!

Let's assume that every sandwich requires bread and at least one ingredient. That is if you consider the absence of an ingredient a unique sammie then the answer in the above case is closer to 35 than it is to 100.
Not to sound like a total dick (I can do that on just about any other thread on this board)... but I just couldn't let that fuzzy math sit. -

As noted by Carnie, I was assuming just 1 type of bread. We could also throw in the possibility of open-faced sandwiches, not to mention clubs, but that's just getting nerdy.
The way I did it was a little silly, a more intuitive way to think about the sandwich possibilities is to treat each bite as a bit. There are two bread choices, so 2 bits for the bread bite, 3 meat choices, so 3 bits for the meat bite, and 3 veg choices so 3 bits for the veg bite. The total number of combinations is just
(2^2)(2^3)(2^3) = 256
We can get to Carnie's case by excluding the no bread case (subtract 1 from the bread term) and excluding the no meat / no veg case (subtract 1 from the combined meat/veg term).
(2^2 - 1)((2^3)(2^3)-1) = 189
If we want to exclude the mixed bread case, subtract 1 more from the bread term to get
(2^2 - 2)((2^3)(2^3)-1) = 126
And so on and so forth if you want to reduce it further.
