Where's the f***ing asphalt on St Johns Pl? — Brooklynian

Where's the f***ing asphalt on St Johns Pl?

So they scraped up the existing asphalt on the 2 blocks of St Johns Pl between Washington and Plaza over 2 weeks ago. Usually this is a prelude to repaving, but nothing has happened.

Does anyone know the scoop?

Should we start a 311 call-in campaign to get them to repave already?

  • When they repaved Prospect Place a couple of summers ago, they did the whole thing in stages...so first they ripped up the whole thing between Flatbush and E. NY Ave, working east to west, then they went back and repaved. It took a couple of weeks. It's possible that they're still working on it, but way out east of you. It was kind of annoying that the street was bare like that for so long, but at least the actual noisy parts of the milling and repaving were quick.

Did they rip it up before we had that weekend of terrible rain? Maybe they stopped because of that and are taking their sweet time returning.
    Definitely call 311.
  • They did St. John's from Rogers to New York about a week ago and then nothing. So maybe they are going to repave in one fell swoop. I hope its soon because its a pain in the neck crossing that street in heels!

The missing asphalt was mistakenly delivered to Yummy Taco, where it's being used in their burritos.

perhaps, but a piss poor source of flavor.
  • While crossing the incredibly unpaved St. Johns Pl (btn Rogers & Nostrand) I noticed the glint of buried trolley tracks.
    :)
They're still mostly under another layer of pavement, but they're there. It's pretty cool.

I noticed yesterday that they have painted double yellow center lines on the milled surface, so I wouldn't hold my breath....

My wife thinks they might be wating for something to do with "1 PP" construction.

My guess is that the paving truck just lags the scraping truck by a couple of weeks, especially for a fairly lightly travelled street.

(And too bad there's not still trolleys, Cowgirl.)
  • I was gone for 3 weeks and came back to these beautiful new cobblestone streets. What a treat!
  • have you considered the possibility that your block is actually just moving back in time? i'm just saying that if you see those guys who ride around on horses on the weekend come by [sidebar: do you guys know who i'm talking about? those cowboys? i love this city.], you might want to think about brushing up your dutch.

That's one possibility. Another possibility is that they are planning to pave today, since there are "NO PARKING TUESDAY" signs posted. Hopefully the rain will not prevent them.

But I would still learn Dutch, just in case.

    Now that's a positive outlook. :)

Those guys are great!! On the weekends in the summer they usually ride on Underhill, hitch their horses up to the fire hydrant outside Tavern on Dean and have a bite to eat in there.
  • They paved between Washington and Plaza today! Finally!
  • And now they're towing cars in order to pave on my block! (btn Rogers/Nostrand). Very exciting. Bye trolley tracks...
  • Subject: DOT people yelling at each other

before i came to work today there was a bunch of DOT employees yelling at each other, but more importantly there was asphalt being pored so hopefully St. John's & Franklin will be done by the time i get home so i can pretend gentrification is coming faster than it is
  • You guys are crazy. Before you hipsters moved in we had only dirt roads!

before that, bro, the roads were all roman-style, stable and made of rock. then all the colonizers showed up, destroyed it all, and left behind the dirt. The roads today, man, they don't live up to those six hundred years ago.
  • i biked down st. john's coming back from the park this afternoon (between rains) -- smooth and lovely, a fine ride.
