That's a bad idea. Not all antibiotics are good for skin infections, and there's a pretty high incidence of community-acquired MRSA in our area, so the selection of antibiotics is definitely non-trivial. There's no such thing as "strong" and "weak" antibiotics. There's only right and wrong antibiotics for a specific type of infection. Something that's "strong" for malaria or traveler's diarrhea might do nothing for a wound infection, for example. You should go to a doctor before that gets worse.
Rave: friend is bringing me strong ass antibiotics left over from a trip to Africa!!!!!!!
Rave: friend is bringing european antibiotic cream!!!!!!
Rave: between the two of them I think I can still drink!!! My theory is that I fell on Thursday, had wine thursday night, drank my ass of Friday, then nothing until last night. It was the alcohol killing the infection but since I didn't drink for a couple days - not even bailey's in my coffee - it came back. Vodka is a miracle cure. That and Bourbon. -
On the other hand, I will lend Scarlett my crutches if they have to cut her leg off (hint: go see a doctor!)

Yes, yes, yes. I just had a course with lectures and essays on MRSA and the like and I definitely remember the oft repeated list of leading factors: "taking incomplete antibiotic courses" and "saving the leftovers from incomplete courses for later use". Bad, bad bad.

Rant: will one of you just go to the doctor for me since I don't have time? Although I may not need to. My roommate played Nurse last night - dressed up and everything - and drowned the gangrene in peroxide and some other anti-bacterial thing and it actually looks better today. For those of you who can write Rxs, I still need vicodin and muscle relaxers to go with my vodka though kthnx. -

Rave: all right all you negative Nellies telling me to go to the doctor when I can't. I had a nurse at work look at it, and yes it's infected. I had the nurse practitioner review the antibiotics that were given to me -- and they are to treat bacterial infections - and she agreed it was a match. Soooooooooo I am on my way to a healthy knee!!!!!! Now can I have my whiskey Meredith? -
Rant: Are we going to have to give Scarlett booze everytime she injures herself?

What are the antibiotics? -
We don't have that much booze.

You seriously do not want to mess around with an infection. One time I broke a Chango Macho candle in my bathroom and stepped on a piece of glass. The guy I was seeing tried getting the glass out with tweezers and no luck. Finally we got it out with a needle.
Four days later, I step out of bed leading with that foot and practically see stars. Turns out I had a staph infection. It started where the glass went in and was a red line marching straight up my leg.
I got myself right to the doctor who said it's serious shit...if I had waited one more day, I would have been in the hospital. They put me on antibiotics and drew a line on my skin where the red mark stopped. They said in about 12 hours if the line didn't stop moving and start going backwards or fading, I had to go to the hospital ASAP. If that shit gets to your heart, it will kill you (or so I was told....Carni - can I be a doctor now?????).
Howdy, Stranger!
