While I don't understand nor share your loathing for cyclists or your affection for ALL CAPS, I totally hear you on the golf umbrellas. I wouldn't be at all surprised to actually see something picnic-table sized on the streets.

Get over it. Sometimes a larger umbrella is necessary. If you have a backpack on and don't want it to get soaked. Or a small one broke and you have to use the umbrella you usually only use when going out with your partner.

Is this really worth whining about? Or do you just like to complain?

Big umbrellas, necessary or not, are annoying to begin with. But what really pisses me off are the morons that must open their umbrellas immediately upon hitting the steps leading up from the subway, no matter how crowded, if there's even a hint of rain falling. Those people should be beaten with their own umbrellas.

I gotta say, I was standing on the boardwalk in Coney island last night and it was pouring. I had a kid on either side under my standard duck umbrella and we all got wet anyway. My staffer had a GINORMOUS golf type umbrella, had five people under it and they were mostly dry. For that, it's good. For general sidewalk use, I hate getting clocked by people's gigantic umbrellas.

I only ask that you wait to open your umbrella until you reach street level.

Surely you can get wet for the distance of the subways stairs to the street....

Yes, but tall people can pass their umbrellas over the umbrellas/heads of short people. It's like air traffic control...my umbrella flies in the 6-7' airspace.

I hate unbrellas and don't use one unless I absolutely have to I have Gore Tex clothing, including a hat, that keeps me nice and dry, even in the wind
