large trash removal in the slope? — Brooklynian

large trash removal in the slope?

I have a large, heavy, wooden, I think hand made entertainment center that I must get out of my apartment. It is a great piece of furniture, but we need more space. Does anyone know if that is something I can just put on the street as either a freebie or to be picked up as trash or if I need to arrange for garbage removal pick up?

  • This is what it looks like. I moved the top piece (it is a two piece set that goes together) a little off center so you all can see the size of each part.

If anyone wants it, please let me know ASAP.

  • I think you can leave it out. When I checked the DOS website about a love seat I wanted to throw away, it said furniture didn't require a special pick up.
  • Yeah, just put it out there. Today might even be a good day because people are walking around and someone might pick it up. Put a "Curb Alert" on craigslist and I bet it'll be gone by tomorrow.
  • Or put it on freecycle.com. I got rid of a huge entertainment center that way w/ full disclosure that whoever took it would have to carry it down 3 flights of stairs and haul it away. they came with a bunch of people, took it down and carried it away on top of their mini-van. I got about 15 requests in five minutes for my entertainment center.
  • Call MIH Ventures. Heard they're good with large trash removal!
  • While we're talking about clearing apartment space, can anyone recommend a company that will move a dresser from my apartment to my friend's apartment in Carrol Gardens?

I guess I'm looking for something in the middle of the mover-courier continuum...
  • Thanks all for your suggestions.

turtle95 - FreeCycle.com looks like a bogus site. Are you sure that is the correct url?

    Thanks

Actually it's http://www.freecycle.org. The site redirects you to a yahoo groups email list. I was able to get rid of a desk I had a few months ago. Put an ad on the list with a photo and under an hour had someone contacting me they were interested. Person showed up on time and took the desk away. Good luck.
  • You need to call teh sanitation department to find out what day you can put that out.
  • Bulk pickup is the first Saturday of every month. Put it out then and they will take it. For refrigerators you have to make an appointment-
  • Thanks all for responding. I put the entertainment center in front of my apartment and it was gone in less than three hours. awesome!
