My bike was stolen =( — Brooklynian

My bike was stolen =(

This is one of the shittiest feelings in the world. At some point last night between 12:30 and when i woke up at 7 my bike was stolen from in front of my apartment on N Henry at Driggs in Greenpoint. They must have jimmied the lock because the chain was gone as well. It was a silver 10 speed Schwinn Worldsport with red logos and trim.

i know it's an EXTREME long shot and will more than probably never see my bike again, but if anyone happens to see it, please PM me so i can get one step closer to beating the fucking thieving life out of whoever stole it from me. This was more than a means of transportation to me.

  • dude...so sorry
  • Aww man... I am soo sorry. I am always riding around in that area and in the general williamsburg/green point area so I will definitely keep my eyes peeled.
  • Thanks guys. I know pretty much for sure I'll never see it again. Right now what's really making me sick is the thought of some scumbag worthless bike thief riding MY bike around like he earned it. Like he Now on to the ever fun task of eating Ramen til I can set aside enough to buy a new one. If anyone happens to know of a decent quality 23" frame 10 speed road bike for a reasonable price (i understand the term reasonable varies, my reasonable is in the below $200 range), send em on my way.
  • Check out B's bike on Driggs (at Graham ave I believe). I've taken two friends there in the last weekend to get bikes and they are really helpful. Not pretentious at all. I don't really know much about bikes so I just told them what I wanted and that I didn't want to spend more than $300 and they hooked it up. Good luck
  • Sorry, dude, I feel your pain. My first bike was stolen this past Tuesday night-- in the space of an hour--check out my earlier posting. I've been looking for cheap bikes on eBay, they have some good deals.

I think bike thievery should be a crime punishable by waterboarding...
  • sorry to hear about your bike and this wont make it better but... perhaps it will.
I was mindlessly exiting the PSFC and looked at this guy in the bike rack and it didnt occur to me that he was stealing a bike. I got to the corner and was loading up my car when here comes mr thief on a bike being chased by some guy. Well finally it clicks in " Oh he was stealing it!" (Duh!) I cant run due to an ankle injury so I finished loading up and made a U-turn headed down 6th ave and didnt see bike or chaser. I did a slow cruise and on one street saw a cyclist so I turned up the block and slowed to ID the guy. Sure enough- but he saw me and pulled to the side so I didnt get to do a full side swipe. I pinned the bike between the cars and the perp slipped out and ran down the block. At least the bike got returned to the owner with a wheel bent, and hopefully the thief got a few great bruises for his trouble.

Yeah B's is where I go for repairs and to air up the tires, they're really great. I got off work early today so I'm gonna go see what they got, even though it's gonna take a while to save up for something. I also got word of an unused Nishiki at a friend's house in Jersey that I might able to fix up, assuming it's the right size for me.
  • Long shot, but check craigslist for your bike. The asshole that stole it might try to sell it.

I just walked by the Coop -- there's Bike Valet on the weekends now! Which means extra bike racks, and people hanging around watching your bike Not Get Stolen. Huzzah!

I was wondering about that -- like, how organized *is* the bike theft thing these days? Way back when, I would never buy a bike on the street for that reason...

Yeah I'm constantly checking for it, I posted it in the L&F section too. I'm also gonna go on some "pleasant strolls" past the places I usually see "used bike salesmen" around Williamsburg and Bushwick.

Generally not very organized at all. Whoever took it will likely just ride it around Bedford or Manhattan at night asking people if they want to buy it. I've been asked that by various sketchy characters dozens of times.

But don't give up hope, rtraindweller. A friend of mine has twice retrieved bikes that were stolen from him just by spotting them on the street. One time it was apparently the guy who had stolen it the day before (he abandoned it and dashed when cornered), and once it was like six months after the theft, and the bike was being used by a delivery guy for a restaurant. The owner of the place told my friend (and the police) they'd bought it for $50 and had been using it for months.
  • Yea I'm keeping my eyes peeled for it. If I see it I plan on bashing their heads in with whatever blunt object i can find (like a baby?). I passed the Craigslist pot I made around to friends in the area too so hopefully they'll keep an eye out too.
  • Completely understand feeling that way, but keep in mind that if you do see someone riding it, it's probably more likely that they bought it than stole it.

Of course, knowingly (and strongly suspecting is the same as knowing) buying a stolen bike is pretty low itself.
  • Yeah I wouldn't actually inflict any harm, I doubt I'm even capable. But if it were possible I would try to ask where they attained the bike (shady dude selling em).

Again though, I know I'll more than likely never see it again. It is missed greatly. Kryptonite lock and probably venomous snakes and fire breathing feral cats will be my next course of bike security.
  • Sorry to hear about your loss man, I suspect "gutter punks" stole your bike. Look around where they tend to hangout in abandoned buildings, I highly doubt that it was stolen from an organized bike theft ring, more like a desperate junkie.
