Does anyone know if there have been any initiatives to reduce the number of street cleaning days in our neighborhood by half? Park Slope, Brooklyn Heights, Cobble Hill and other nearby neighborhoods have all changed their regulations over the past few years so that there are only TWO street cleaning days. I'm very anxious to know when we will do the same. I have been rushing home from work almost every day for the past 4 years to move my car in anticipation of the mornings street cleaning. I can not take my car out late at night most nights of the week because I will not be able to find a spot on the correct side of the street when I return. These street cleaning regulations have truly been the bane of my existence for the past 4 years. I've sent several emails to our community board but have gotten no response. Is there any hope in the future?

    It depends. I live in Sunset Park - we currently have four days a week cleaning. From a Daily News article this is the reason why ours won't be reduced:

    Sanitation officials said Sunset Park does not meet the criteria for reduced service because not all sections of its board zone have had an average cleanliness rating above 90% for two years - even if its overall rating has met the threshold.

    Also noted in the article is that Park Slope's sections did not meet the criteria either.

    It sucks badly. I'm not sure where you can get the data for your neighborhood cleanliness ratings, but maybe do a google search and see what comes up?

    There is no chance that we will ever move to a parking situation like Pslope. Our steets here are filthy and need to be cleaned more often! I see people walk out of the bodega and throw their wrappers on the ground every single day(5 ft from the trash can)! Not sure why people don't just walk their crap to the trash can, or use the trash bags that people tie up to the fences in the middle of St.J's. Kills me...so lazy! But, if we could all get it together to make this a cleaner neighborhood, I'd love to only have to move the car 1 a week!

    yes.. this morning on my way to the subway there was a feast for the birds consisting of chicken bones and salami sandwiches. maybe they can start alternate sidewalk cleaning and we can walk on one side of the street at a time.

    I lived in Park Slope last year and honestly, I don't care what percentage in cleanliness rating the neighborhood received, unfortunately you noticed the difference when there were fewer street cleanings. sitting on my stoop i could smell the difference. bummer.
