Shooting at Franklin Dean again

Just talked to the officers at the scene and he's apparently going to pull through. My girlfriend was walking a block away when the shots went off around 7pm. Unbelievable. Who sprays bullets around in broad daylight with a Skywatch visible up the street? It's the brazen nature of this shooting that really gets to me.

Ooohhhh Ooohhhh I know the answer to that question.!!!
Idiots and ass h*les!!!!!!
Too bad they cant just kill themselves, they gotta shoot the delivery guy! -
Terrible news. The sky watch is far away from Dean and in no way visible. Really terrible news.
-
Update: roomate just talked to a cop who said two people were shot. Not surprising if the delivery-guy was hit by a stray.

Not very apparent. The delivery man was seriously injured and his long term prognosis is grim. He was sent to the OR almost immediately after arriving at the hospital and spent several hours in surgery.
It's a busy block and busy corner. Somebody must've seen something. -
that is terrible. the victims are in my prayers.

As stated, this was in broad daylight on a super crowded street - Sushi Tatsu has outdoor seating during the warm months.
I live a block away and what gets me crazy pissed is that 9 yrs later the violence has increased! Its a quiet block, there's no reason for gunplay or drama. If your life sucks - no parents, no money, no job, no education - then just sit your ass down on a stoop and watch the traffic go by. Why are we shooting?
Don't these assholes realize that the only way to get shot on that stretch on Franklin is to do the shooting yourself? This isn't some 1980's-early 90's Compton-like nabe where people are afraid to come out of their homes and gangs run the streets - if you want to live drama-free, you can. With the influx of middle class families and young professionals and new businesses there's even less reason for the gunplay - these people aren't going to jack you for your stash or mug you - so stop the bullshit.
I swear sometimes I feel like I should fit myself w/ a tinfoil hat, because I'm starting to think that someone is importing these assholes into the nabe w/ the specific orders to shoot up the place so property values drop, decent folk move out and some bigwig can buy up the whole neighborhood for their own purposes. -
wow, i walked by there 10 minutes before the shooting

Last night just before it happened, we got word that the police denied our permit request for a block party--the reason given was that the denial was due to increased crime in the area. Obviously the police know something we don't and are not informing the community. Yet if they are so concerned about crime in the area, where is the increased police presence? I don't want to be afraid to walk down my own block with my child for fear of flying bullets.
This is the second shooting--apparently drug-related--on the same block in a month. What the heck is going on and what is being done to stop it from happening again? -
how do they know the men were drug dealers if they haven't been caught?
nice that the ambo took 15 minutes to arrive. -
@heidikins: Is that the Dean st. block party?
I don't see a lot of shady stuff going on around Franklin & Dean. I wonder where this is coming from. Though I guess what really matters is where the target is... not where the target is dealing.
Btw on the Gothamist news map they show two shootings just minutes apart- one at classon and the one at franklin.

There simply aren't enough cops. I guess they also figure, if there isn't enough police presence, then they can't protect people if something goes down during the block party. -

Yup, the Dean Street Block Association block party, which was supposed to be on 8/8. I ran into the Block president who was handing out flyers about the rejection less than a 1/2 hour before the shooting. The flyer encourages people to complain about the permit denial to the 77th precinct, Councilwoman James, Senator Adams, and Community Board 8. But I also think it's worth complaining to them about these shootings and police presence/protection. I've lived on this block for almost 10 years and never seen anything like this.

By the way, the Dean St. Block Association is having a meeting in the community garden on Dean b/w Franklin & Bedford on Tuesday August 4th at 7 PM. Intially, it was to discuss the permit denial, but I think security and these incidents need to be addressed and we should get some police or other community representatives to the meeting. -
i wonder if any of the activity that normally goes down on franklin near lincoln migrates a few blocks when the police lookout sets up. then again, i don't remember many shootings near lincoln, so this "drug-relate" crime probably doesn't have anything to do with that stuff.
i'd think a block with outdoor dining, considerable foot traffic and an above-ground subway would be safer at seven o'clock. -
I read somewhere that a lot of the drug business had moved east to Franklin from Washington in recent years. Do people here believe that to be the case?
-
Franklin has always had drug dealers and it used to be a lot worse than this.
-
This is terrible! We need to pile more pressure on the elected officials to address the insecurity in the neighborhood! Can I get a WTF? :wtf:

FYI...there were several officers assigned to every block party the last two weekends. This weekend extra coverage was brought in from other precincts. There were also cops fixed along Franklin and Nostrand as well as in Brower Park and Lincoln Terrace Park. Somebody must have noticed the increased presence.

Yeah, I saw that. There were also cops on the corner of Franklin and Dean for a few days afterwards, but they are gone now. -
Subject: Yikes!
Must have missed it by minutes...cops were everywhere and I went to my fav grocer and asked what happened he didn't know either. Poor guy.
Howdy, Stranger!
