What Movie Theaters are Worth Going to?

It's getting to be too hot and humid for me. I need a movie theater to escape and sit in an air conditioned space. What are the worst and best in the area. I'm willing walk a ways.

BAM, is my first choice I guess -any others to go to or avoid? Double features would be awesome, do they do that around here?

  • If you're willing to go via subway, I like the Landmark Sunshine on Houston btw. 1/2 aves. Good indie flicks, better seats than the Angelika.

I hate the Pavillion, but will sneak in there for an R-rated movie early in the day (they do matinee pricing)
  • The Ziegfeld is by far one of the finest in the country. AFAIK it is the only single screen house left in the city

Other than that you almost have go screen by screen at some places. The pavilion has some nice one and tiny ones

Do you know which screens are the biggest? Or do I just have to ask when I get tickets?
  • I can't remember, but as a general rule the blockbusters are in the main screens and the indie movies are in the tiny ones
  • If you really want to go to the movies (plural) go to the Regal in Battery Park. They absolutely don't car if you go to 2 or 3 movies. You can make a double or triple feature if you plan it wright.

  • The Park Slope Pavillion's air conditioning breaks often. You're better off at Court Street or in Manhattan.
  • BAM. Not sure what is playing now. But it is the nicest place to see a movie in Brooklyn, and it is close to PS.

Spelling is a plus if you have a blog.

Thanks for reminding me how my 6th grade teacher made me feel.
  • If you're looking to save a buck, Cobble Hill Theatre has matinee prices on Tues/Thurs evenings($6.50, methinks) and Kew Gardens in Queens had a similar deal on Tues/Thurs, but I'm not sure if that's still running.
  • Subject: $6 Bucks before 12 noon

At all AMC theaters it's$6 bucks before 12 noon 7 days
  • We went to BAM movies on Sunday and will never go again If you arent tall you cant see over the head of the people in front of you becuase the seating isn't stadium seating I felt like asking for a booster seat. This happened once before and it won't happen again. I will go back to Court Street
  • Saturday night I went to see Julie and Julia at the Pavillion. While I was there I sustained an adult bed bug bite in my seat. AAAARRRRGGHHH!!!!!!!! Praying the bugger didn't come with me. Who can I call/e-mail to complain LOUDLY?????

I love the selection (more indie) at BAM, but the seats are rough....I often go to Landmark Sunshine on Houston to get my indie movie fix on.
  • my favorite theater in brooklyn is the one on court street. i mean the older and smaller one on court st, not the new big one by atlantic ave
  • That would be the Cobble Hill theater.
  • Court street's decent

I did not see any buggies, but I know I was bit by something and felt it a number of hours later! Awful. I was at the same movie on Firday at the Pavillion. I am scared to death I brought something home with me. Do you think you did? I am very frustrated and have told many people not to step foot in that place!
