Tonsilitis?
Ok, I need opinions here from my internets buddies. Whenever I get sick I have a sore throat and ear problems, have since I was a kid. This time is special, though! The whole right side of my throat, tongue, jaw, and back of mouth are swollen and extremely painful. I can't see the back of my throat and I've even been talking funny. Right ear is killing me too. I am gargling with salt water but I'm not sure how much that'll help in the long run.
Now, I'm sure you're reading this and thinking, "why the hell is she posting this here? go to a freaking doctor". Here's the thing, I have hospital coverage but no doctor coverage. Some of you may remember last December when I was bitten by a rescue and spent 4 days in the hospital because of an idiot er doctor. So I'm reluctant to go back to the er unless I absolutely have to. Plus, I have no desire to spend a gazillion hours there when I should be at work.
What do you guys think? Oh, and if no one hears from me for 24 hours call my mom. I don't want the kitties nibbling my toes when they get hungry!

You could have a severely infected tooth too.
As someone without health coverage I feel your pain. No one can afford paying out of pocket. -
yikes....poor caseo. I'll keep mama caseo on speed dial....
definitely keep up the salt water thing. also take something to relieve the pain (not sure what the best thing would be - maybe advil?).
how does the throat feel? hot and tight? like you're swallowing razor blades?
health care sucks ass. -
Like there's a huge painful pain radiating knot in the corner of my throat, not hot or scratchy. And it feels like there's an ice pick in my ear. Oh, the best part? I had a nightmare earlier today that I came home and my building was going up in flames. No firemen could get in and all but 3 of my animals died! Way to make myself feel better, brain!

I hope you are OK.
Sounds like you're part of America's population of under-insured. You should send a letter about your situation to CNN or some other news station that covers our screwed up health care system.
Can you go to the emergency room?
I know a guy who was in a similar situation and could no longer eat. He ended up going to the emergency room. He didn't have a choice in the end. -
The system has failed you and is morally bankrupt, justifying disrespecting its rules. Obtain a course of augmentin (or generic equiv.) on the black market.

Don't fool around. Call 311 and get the name of the closest free walk-in clinic to both your home and job. Stop by and get someone to check you out before or after work. It may be something that can be taken care of easily but better to be safe than sorry.
In the meantime, I'd go with Sucrets throat lozenges or Cloraseptic throat spray. Both contain a mild anesthetic which numb the mouth and throat. It should help with the discomfort until you can see someone who can diagnose the problem. If it were me, I'd probably try some asprin, ibuprofin, etc if I could swallow to get them down. Finally, try sucking on an icy or some kind of frozen pop. Getting something cool in your mouth may help with the earache on a short term basis.
I get the whole avoid the ER thing, but you need to get checked out by a professional, it really is the best thing. -
Advil/Ibuprofen helps reduce swelling, I take that over any asprin. Try to get lots of liquids and vitamin C/antioxidants in you until you can see a doctor. If anything those are good for you no mater what.

Thanks guys! I feel a bit better today but I called out sick since one of my managers is an insane germaphobe, he freaks out when anyone comes to work sick. Still gargling with salt water, drinking lots of orange juice, sleeping a bunch. I'm going to call about my insurance later and try to get them to get their ass in gear. I'm supposed to get doctor coverage but they've been dicking me around, don't they realize that a doctor's visit will cost much less than an er visit? Dumbasses.
Thanks for all the advice and well wishes, I'm going to see if my neighbors can find me some chicken soup!
doctorj, where is this medication black market of which you speak? All I can find around here is crack, coke, heroin, and weed. I'm pretty sure none of that will make me feel better!
Howdy, Stranger!
