Sell CDs?
Hi. I'm moving. Can't keep hauling these 800 or so CDs around with me. They are great, but I prefer them in an ipod and to save the apt. space. I found www.ipodmeister.com who rips your cds and gives you an ipod in exchange for the cds. Not a bad option. Money is better though. Anyone have luck selling CDs to a used CD store these days? Anybody want to buy a fantastic CD collection?

I'll give you 10 cents each.

There are plenty of stores and people that will buy them from you in bulk, but they're not going to give you much money (Meredeth's offer is actually generous). You'd definitely make more selling them individually yourself (which is of course more of a pain).
If you do get rid of them make sure you back them up on something other than your ipod or computer or you'll most likely lose them forever at some point. Also mp3s are really inferior sound quality compared to your CDs, but I guess that's a whole different discussion. -

@Trainsmoke: If you took care of those CDs some of them might be worth the trouble of selling them. Right? What are your collection's areas of depth? I'm looking at this thing (above) as a solution to separating the wheat from the chaff. Claims to have "3-click selling" on Amazon.
Currently I am checking the cost-benefit of doing this by sampling prices. Seems like the most popular CDs are worth next to nothing, but some of the more obscure stuff that is out-of-print have sellers asking 20 and up. I found some that the asking prices are over 100. (not counting the unrealistic sellers that persistently ask ridiculous high.) So I might try this.
Granted this will take some time for a buyer to come along. Maybe a combination approach where the rarities are set aside, to handle the selling of those oneself, but let the free iPod place handle the bulk of it? Or delegate the whole process to someone who needs a part time job? -
you think moving CDs is a pain, try moving several thousand LPs and 45's.

Oh, I don't have several thousand LPs but I've got hundreds, and those are coming with:)

try Generation Records on Thompson St in the West Village, they still gladly take in used CDs. My buddy unloaded a ton of used CDs there and actually made a decent penny off it.

Sell them ASAP, before the new "remastered version".

That delicious monster software is pretty neat. I scanned a few CDs that I thought might be out of print or collectible and they are going for $30+ on Amazon! Who would thought? Anyhow, I'm starting by selling all the ones I can burn in time at our building's stoop sale this Sunday.
So if you want great CDs stop by Dean St. btw Flatbush and 6th Ave this Sunday starting at 11! -
Im interested. PM me and let me know how much you would want for the bunch.
