Hit and run accident 8/6 around 8:30 pm at PPW and 14th St

There was a hit and run accident on Thursday night (8/6) around 8:30 pm at the intersection of Prospect Park West and 14th Street. We saw a black four-door late model Lexus hit a silver SUV (maybe a Hyundai or Kia). It appeared that the Lexus failed to stop at the intersection and caused the accident. The driver was a white male.

Thankfully, no one appeared to be injured, but the Lexus's right front tail light was smashed, and the silver SUV had significant damage on its rear bumper.

Anyway, the driver of the Lexus drove off without checking on the other driver or to exchange information. What an jerk!

I guess my point in writing this is that I have seen A LOT of similar accidents around this intersection and people should be alert to the fact that drivers sometimes do not see the stoplight at 14th Street and will drive right through the light. I've also seen cars turning on to PPW from the circle, driving head on into traffic! So please be careful at the crosswalk of this intersection.

  • You take your life in your hands crossing that circle.

My only accident was a hit and run. Somebody driving way over the speed limit smashed into me when I turned on to the street. Both of our cars spun around and when they straightened out, they kept going. Bastard.

You may want to call the police to let them know what you saw. Maybe somehow the dots will all be connected.
  • sammy, you're preaching to the choir about that intersection/the circle. it's a deathtrap
  • We called the police right away and saw others on the street making calls, too. Oddly, the police never showed (as far as we could tell) but two ambulances came right away and helped the driver of the SUV.

I just wish I was able to catch part of the Lexus's license plate.
  • You did the best you could, Sammy. Thanks for taking the time to call it in.
  • that circle (and the one by the tennis court) is an amazing example of how stupid and selfish people are. every single time I drive through there, I see someone making a right turn out of a center or left lane. Literally, every single time. I'm always shocked that there is not an accident happening about every 6 minutes.

    appreciate you calling it in!
