studio or one bedroom? — Brooklynian

studio or one bedroom?

Hi all, I love Brooklyn and I really don't want to leave! My BF and I are looking for a studio or 1-br for around $1500. We're both great tenants and we both have stable jobs in educational publishing, for which we are very thankful. Are we dreaming that we'll find something at that price? Where are the best places to look? CL has nothing!

  • i came up with 1000 hits for under $1500 on craig's list, but for the most part they are probably not in the parts of brooklyn that you love. others looked fine, though. this is a big moving time, realtors are very busy scalping new students/recent graduates. i found my one-bedroom apartment in the mythical land of south slope in november, and it is under $1400, down from the original asking price of $1600+. timing can be everything.
  • Bay Ridge apartment for rent by owner. Available September 1st. If interested, there are no Broker's fees. $1500, includes heat and hot water. Please email if interested. Thanks!
  • as much as I hate paying brokers for what, IMHO is little or no service rendered, I have to admit I'd never have found the place I'm in now (prime north slope, and cheap) if I hadn't gone to one. Over the length of time I've been here and plan to stay here, the fee added a negligible amount to the cost of the apartment.
  • What broker did you use?
