Found Cat- Sort of... Prospect Park Southwest and PPW
I was out in my courtyard area tonight in between my buildings and a super friendly cat strolls up to me. I have NEVER, in a year and a half seen a cat out there. I immediately thought it was a neighbor's, I spoke to this neighbor and she said she has seen this cat around, has fed it and thinks the cat lives in the alley behind the building. If anyone has lost a cat, and would like to private message me a description, please feel free. I did go back out to try and take a pic and feed it, but it had left. I will keep my eyes peeled though if it turns out to be someone's long, lost pet.

I figured if someone lost a cat in the area, they would find it useful. Because they could send me a description and I could see if it's a match. I understand it's vague, but I don't feel the right way to approach it was by giving a description. Anyone could say it's their cat.

you don't give enough info to have anybody on the lookout. "ooooh....I saw a cat...I'm going to call bklynnewbie"...."there goes another one...let me call her again"
-
I FOUND a cat. Not LOST one. The people who need to contact me are those who have LOST a cat. If I had lost my cat, and saw this post, I would be appreciative someone bothered to post this at all.
-
you lost me at hello
-
Subject: lost cat
You did a very nice thing. -
A description would be helpful- I mean, there's so many cats in the area (all FREE for the taking!) that it's not like some random person is going to say, yea, that's my black and white tabby if its not theirs. You know? A cat is not a wallet or a diamond ring where you hide the description on purpose.
-
And I used to like this message board... LOL. Bottom line.... if you have lost a cat in this area, send me a description.
-
That LOL really helped. Thanks.

bklynnewbie,
Thank you for the post, that is very good of you. The fact that the cat was super friendly probably means he was, or is, a house cat. Hope he gets home with your help. -
Did anyone notice that in the post by tsgiss (the second post for this thread), there seems to be some hard to see white text? I am not sure what that is about.
-
I agree a description would be nice.
Example
Found 2 year cat. Tastes like chicken -
Looks like that tsgiss post I mentioned is now gone.

Bklynnewbie, this is a good post. Thanks. If I'd lost my cat I'd appreciate you thinking of it. We do need more info though, or else there's no way for someone to link their lost cat to you.
Can you tell us the intersection of streets near where you live? That at least would give a clue to someone who had lost a cat.
I also don't think it would hurt to put up a description of the cat. Unlike a lost ipod, it's hard to get people to adopt any kind of cat, no one is going to want to claim this one unless they really think it's theirs. -
bklynnewbie-Your post was perfect and not at all hard to understand! Unfortunately some on this board have become "know-it-alls" just waiting to pounce on some misspelling, grammatical nuance, etc. Very often they are the "veterans" and think they can dictate or control the subject. You know who you are and if the shoe fits, wear it!

What area? Are you closer to Flatbush or 15th Street? Near 5th Avenue or PPW? A little more info would be helpful... -
Agree w/ Homeowner.
Also, the dude abides is now my favorite member :-) -

Check it, Teacup. Nobody said the post was hard to understand- we just wanted more information that the OP was willing to give. Most of us "veterans" (personally not crazy about the moniker, but whatever) care deeply for animals and LOVE happy endings when an animal finds his human. You can't expect people to crawl all over the OP giving a description of a cat that they don't even have in their possession. Many times, people don't realize their cat is missing. If I read- tabby in the alley on such and such block, and that's my block, I'm going to go look for my kitteh. If you just say I spotted a friendly cat and then I walked away- is it yours?, then you know...its just not a lot to go on.
That all said- I do agree that there are some "know-it-alls" on here that pick on people for their bad grammer (shit, I'll admit I've done it once or twice), but no one ever said the internet was a warm and fuzzy place. -
I live in that area and some of the strays are on the friendlier side. Maybe he/she is just an easy going street cat?
I see a black & white tabby and an all black cat around my building very frequently and both are not that skiddish. Could it have been either one them? -
I stated the intersection in my title. Prospect Park Southwest and Prospect Park West. Very close to the 15th St. Train Station. Having two cats myself, I find them very valuable and have heard stories about labs collecting strays for experiementation. Perhaps I am being paranoid and that is why I hesitated to post a description.
It was a large gray cat, I am pretty sure it is a male. Extremely friendly. He came in my building and was following me around. He did not have a collar. As I said, a neighbor has seen the cat before and has fed him. He certainly does not look underfed. I picked him up, he had to be at least 15lbs.
Thanks to those who posted supportive and nice comments. -
Thanks bklynnewbie. I missed that info in the title of your post. I have a couple friends who live a block away -- if they know of anything I'll send them here.
Didn't know that about the labs.... perhaps if this cat has any other smaller identifiers (eye color, small patch of white somewhere), you can use those to screen anyone who contacts you.
Good luck! -
bklynnewbie,
I have a microchip scanner if you want me to swing by to check if the dude has a chip. I'm unfortunately driving out to jersey for the weekend, but I can bike by on Monday if little dude is still around. I would also let local vets know, just in case one of their clients comes in with missing cat fliers.
Thanks for posting.
