Subject: What's the story on "Crazy Lane"?

I'm fairly new to the neighborhood, and have gathered from reading some of the posts on this site that St. John's between Underhill and Washington is or was sometimes called "Crazy Lane". I have some sense of what that might mean, but would someone be willing to give me a little bit of background, and let me know whether or why this nickname still fits? Thanks.

  • Try going to the top and clicking on Search, then enter "Crazy Lane." There are several looooooong threads, one of which is where the block "got its name." I'm not sure the name exists or is used outside of this board, though. Sort of like the ProHo joke.
  • I tried that, but only came across posts that suggested that the nickname no longer applies. Can you point me to the post that gives the explanation? It doesn't seem to be in any of the subject lines that I found. Thanks.
  • Okay, now that you mention it, it was pretty hard to find.

    Here's the first one: http://www.brooklynian.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=271

    Then the rebuttal:

There are others, but it fairly quickly devolves into blame-the-victim stuff.
  • Thanks, that was really helpful.
