Park Slope feels like one big ash tray today

No, here is the subject:pokersloper wrote: It seems that in recent months there are more and more smokers in the slope, walking down 7th avenue, 5th avenue, blowing their smoke in your face. Maybe it is the recession and people are smoking more. Park Slope feels like one big ash tray today.
It seems the subject is that one entitled person who wants everyone to conform to what they like and want is complaining about people doing something total legal on the public sidewalks of Park Slope. -
I've probably smoked as many cigarettes as anyone else on the board: 50 Marlboro reds a day every day for 25 years. I was a full-bore addict until I finally quit about 12 years ago.
There is no question but that smokers intrude on everyone around them. Ashes, smoke and butts go everywhere, without regard to property rights or personal space. Walking two to four feet behind a smoker is like smoking a cigarette yourself... you are bathed in the acrid odor of burning tobacco.
I have a certain degree of sympathy for addicts like myself; nevertheless, just as that sympathy does not extend to heroin addicts who try to steal my car radio or home dvd player, it does not justify smokers who refuse to acknowledge that their smoking often imposes itself on others in an unpleasant way.
Most smokers would never stoop to pissing on their neighbors' feet. Blowing smoke in their neighbors' faces is just as rude and unpleasant, and should be similarly frowned upon.
Smokers allowed themselves to become addicted. They should not feel oppressed (as I certainly did) because non-smokers object to being forced to share the noxious aspects of the smokers' addiction. -

Yeah, so suck it up. -
Keep proving your intolerance.
I have to agree with a previous poster, it's people like you pokersloper who give Park Slope a bad name.
Why not just move to the cuntry. You belong there. -
MeredithB,
You support an industry of death and an unhealthy and gross life style. Suck it up princess. -

No, you have a right to smoke and we both have a right to express our opinions.

I think that is what makes The United States and Park Slope great. -

Again, I seriously doubt any smokers are blowing smoke in anyone's faces. It is just being perceived that way by the rabid, anti-smoking masses.
Smokers allowed themselves to become addicted. They should not feel oppressed (as I certainly did) because non-smokers object to being forced to share the noxious aspects of the smokers' addiction.
And non-smokers have the absolute right to object to object, although I would not say they are being forced into anything. There is always a door one can walk out of and go somewhere else to one's liking. And until the laws are changed about smoking this is something non-smokers will have to deal with.
Sad but true, so deal with it. Complain to your politicians, your store owners, etc., because I doubt that smoker you are trying to complain to really gives a shit (although there are a few who do) -

You on the other hand are a fascist.
Really, stop trying to control people. You can't. Suck on it long and hard because you know you love it. -
Who is it you think suffers from delusions of entitlement?

The law says it is legal to smoke in public places therefore people are entitled to smoke in public places.
It is those who feel that they are special and other people should conform to their desires that are the entitled ones. -
Meredith, I used to be able to smoke in bars, in restaurants, and in the various companies' offices I worked in throughout Midtown Manhattan. And, because it was legal (and because I was an addict), I did not care about the effects my smoking had on others.
As a result of that attitude (mine and many, many others), the city adopted laws against smoking in restaurants, bars and office buildings.
Remain defiant... until the city bars smoking on public sidewalks and in private residences. Given your attitude, the day will come. -

The law also says that gay people can't marry, so under SuckItUp's "logic", people who support gay marriage are "entitled ones."
Oh SuckItUp, perhaps you should just suck it up princess. -
That's fine. I hope it does. I hope cigarettes are made illegal. But until that day deal with it and change the law. But please, stop complaining about people who are not doing anything wrong and are basically only hurting themselves.

"Obesity kills more people than tobacco related deaths per year, and is the number one cause of death for Americans."
i don't want to see one obese person in park slope. they need to be locked up and i plan to protest outside the haagan daaz later today.
i can't wait until eating is illegal in park slope for obese people. -
Now that's hitting below (and above) the belt!

belzjm,
You never answered my question. You said that people who go to church are idiots. Does that mean our president and vice president are idiots for going to church every Sunday?
Awaiting your logical and tolerant response. -

I am off now SuckItUpB, I can't wait to come back and hear more of your entitled rants. Until then, just suck it up. -
oh and as most people on this board know, I am anything but a princess.
Besides, it is you who is doing the complaining, not me.
Suck it. Actually, I have a better idea what you can do with it. -
i am now convinced that smoking and their slogans are in fact cool

"Awaiting your logical and tolerant response."
the sad part is that you are so incredibly delusional and possibly mentally ill, that you don't even realize how hypocritical you are.
this is coming from someone who's entire rant on here has been filled with nothing but intolerance and a lack of logic.
i will not be responding to you any longer, because i've learned that the best way to deal with mentally challenged people is to ignore them. -

MeredithB, it is true that smoking is legal. It is true that smokers can smoke on the sidewalk, on their stoops, what have you. It is true that you can talk with a smoker and inform him that you are allergic and ask him to move - and he doesn't have to. All of this is absolutely true.
It is also perfectly legal for people curse out shop clerks, stand in the doors of the subway, wipe their noses on their hands, scream at their kids, and even cheat on their spouses - none of these rude, inconsiderate things will get you put in jail. Asshole-ness can't be legislated. But that doesn't mean it doesn't exist, or shouldn't be pointed out.
