come hang out in front of my house any weekday afternoon, one of my neighbors (haven't quite pinpointed who yet) seems to like to light up from about 2 until 5, you can almost get high just sitting in my front yard.
  • MeredithB,

    Have a nice day.
  • [quote=pokersloper]belzjm,

You said that people who go to church are idiots. President Obama and Vice President Biden go to church. Are you saying the President and VP are idiots?

while I am not thrilled that belz made that comment (if it is true that he did), I see no reason why you now want to turn this into a religious debate.
  • LongTime,

I have no interest in discussing religion. I had a frustrating day with smokers, posted so, and religion was brought into in a way that offended me. So I am calling out "belz" on his intolerance of those with faith. Calling people who go to church "idiots" is offensive and silly. I have no problem saying so.
  • LongTime,

You don't have to question the truth of statements. The thread is archived, you can figure that one out pretty quickly.

doesn't exist, or shouldn't be pointed out.
You see, to you, people who smoke are assholes, even if they were to move from your stoop.

But you not only expect them to move from your stoop you don't want them around anywhere and that's fine, you can want what you want, not that you will always get it because if you expect smokers to move from a public space for you (like the sidewalk mentioned in the original post), even if you were there first, well, then you are just joining in the asshole-ness.

You see, to each our own. Don't they teach you that shit in bible class or something like it?

That's the problem with religious kooks, they are more hypocritical than most.
  • Look, I was the first one to say people who go to church/synagogues are "idiots". But you can't blame politicians for being/acting religious. They have a public to pander to and, unfortunately, most of that public are "idiots".
  • MeredithB,

I see, under your world view, all people of faith are idiots except politicians. And you call other people idiots? Interesting. I am not a person of faith, but would never disrespect those who are.

    Have a nice day,
  • Please, you're a bible thumper, it's pretty obvious seeing your obsession with that statement.

    Nice try.
  • Why are you even having this argument?
  • MeredithB, I believe you misunderstand me.

Smoking in itself isn't asshole-ness; if you read my post, you'll see I was NOT making that generalization.

I am all for people smoking if they want to - I never said anything about smokers being assholes simply because they smoke.

Whether a person smokes or not is none of my business...UNTIL it interferes with my ability to breathe, which - in the case of my neighbor - it does, routinely.
  • MeredithB,

More name calling from you huh. Shame you are not more tolerant of people with different views then your own.

    Have a nice day.
  • I am off to catch a plane. Have a nice weekend Mer B and everyone else.

    Good question.

    I'm out of here!

To give the New York Times / New Yorker / Park Slope Courier something to write about.
  • Ah I miss the good ole days of PS when it was mostly pot smoke blown at you and everyone was too mellow to bitch and moan. Smile

    This.

And do we have to go through the whole cigarette smoke allergy myth again? It's a sensitivity to an irritant that can aggravate other allergies.

What is the difference. Some people have more of a problem with cigarette smoke than others.
  • Ummm HELLO! MODS! Rampant NAME-CALLING going on in this thread. Do your jobs!
  • Okay folks...

In spite of prior Moderator warnings about name calling and other ongoing bad behavior in this thread in need of constant babysitting (which the post above appears not to be aware of), it appears that some here would prefer to push the limits of site rules and continue the flood of indecency toward each other.

That's fine, certainly your choice to do so (for those who pursued it further) in spite of the warnings and requests to keep it civil and follow site rules.

The Moderators here usually work to address individual offending posts off-line and request others to handle their disputes off-line via private messages as well (again -- as was already done in this thread...) to keep the remainder of the thread open to free discussion within site rules and hope that the participants are able to keep things going along more civil lines.

But it appears that we are well beyond that point of just another warning and more ongoing babysitting in this thread, and the only thing left to do here to respect the wishes of Whatchuwant's post above (and all others tired of the unfortunate behavior exhibited by some present) is just to turn off the spigot.

Sorry folks, public and private warnings were issued and people were asked to play nice as per site rules and yet some here still opted to continue fueling the fire in spite of that, so this thread's being locked.
