emergency at the Ansonia Coop

I'm standing on 7th and 12th. Four fire trucks and at least as many ambulances and police cars are responding to an emergency at the Ansonia coop.

judging my the response (huge) and the fact that they're putting ladders on top of the sidewalk shed, I'd guess that one of the workers repointing the bldg fell onto the shed.

  • there are now several more ambulances and fire trucks PLUS two helicopters hovering over the scene. something very very big.
  • Yep, I see the chopper and heard the sirens.
  • bystander said scaffolding collapse. can't say for sure, scaffolding looks intact to me, although one section is tilted at an angle. the response is huge. 3 helicopters now. reporters arriving. fdny press office just pulled up.
  • 3 helicopters are hovering a little north of that now. And there were tons of sirens going in the area. It's getting lots of attention from folks out on the street--seemed like everyone was looking up at the copters and talking about all the ambulances and fire engines they had seen going.

  • PARK SLOPE -- At least one person was killed in a scaffold collapse in Park Slope Tuesday.

The incident happened at a multi-story building on 12th Street and 7th Avenue.

The fire department is confirming one fatality.

At least two other workers were hanging from the scaffolding. They were pulled inside by emergency responders.
    from the above link.
  • confirmed. I'm on the east side of the block and I can see an entire sectiom of scaffold has collapsed. hanging vertically. anyone on it would have fallen 4 stories into the paved courtyard. terrible.
  • NYTimes is looking for witnesses to the collapse. Can anyone who has seen it try giving me a call to 212 556 5237 at my desk.

    Thanks,
    Jenny

  • I'm standing right there now and it looks like a section of scaffold dropped two stories then split in half. one half appears to have stayed horizontal while theother went vertical.
  • One end of the scaffold appears to have broken loose, leaving 2 workers hanging by harnesses. There was another guy on an adjacent platform/scaffold - who was ok.

These guys have been working on the building for weeks and always appeared to be wearing safety harnesses.....
  • was there a problem w/my post?

MOD NOTE: No problem, I just merged it with the existing thread on the same topic.

  • That is just such a sadness.

I hate to read truly tragic stories about PS.

  • Bradedward.. apology for excluding the rest of the world. Obviously, I didn't mean it that way. But, I responded the night of the accident and in that moment I did feel exactly what I typed.

Hot and humid out.. people feeling pretty testy today.. as I read through today's posts on Brooklynian.
