Anyone in Prospect Park tonight BIKING? — Brooklynian

Anyone in Prospect Park tonight BIKING?

edited November -1 in Prospect Heights
I'll be there (hopefully) around 6:45- 7pm tonight, for an hour or so, say about 6 laps.

I'll be on a dark blue Trek Madone 5.2 SL, wearing a light blue Gerolsteiner kit.

If you're planning to ride, say hi if you see me, and hop on for a pull.

Wooosh. Just got back from there actually, or I'd offer to help draft you up the hill.

No worries, did my 6 laps, got bored, came home. What do you ride so I can look for you sometime --don't need help up the hill though ;)

m8: I suspect you're way more serious than me. I ride a cheap Chinese hybrid from Dixon's. Depending on our relative speeds, it may appear blue over your shoulder, red from behind. ;)

I hate to pull nerd rank here, but if m8 is faster than you, red shift would make your bike look blue from behind as he approached you to pass, and red over his shoulder as he pulled away from you.

    Precisely. *if*.
    1+z=fs/fo=sqrt[(1+(Δv/c))/(1-(Δv/c))]
    </nerd>

  • It would be cool if we could get a little bike riding group together to go Prospect Park and ride. Count me in.

I'll hang towards the rear! :)
  • Does anyone go in the 12pm-5pm range? I need to avoid high traffic for a month or two.

yes, indeed. I tend to like to ride during the day to avoid traffic (this will change this summer when I start working full time), but if something regular starts up, I'll be there.
  • I'd love to ride during the day, but I work in the city, so that's out. I'm there most evenings around 6:30-7ish, and for about an hour, hour and a half. Longer if there is someone interesting to ride with.
  • I just got a new bike and want to break it in. But though it's a fancy bike, I'm not a fancy rider, so if anyone wants to casually ride (like a lap or two) around 7:30-8, I'd be down.

Evening or morning? If you mean evening, I'll be there tonight... what's your new bike look like so we I can look for you?

I meant evening, but worked longer than I figured and that killed that idea. I've got a blue and silver Trek hybrid 7100. I'm aiming to try again Wednesday or Thursday if I can beat the sun this time.
  • Well, look for me on a dark blue trek madone and some team jersey, probably light blue gerolsteiner, a yellow one or a red and blue NYC one. Pop up and say hi :)
  • I'd like to start getting in a regular ride. I tried to last year, but found the exhaust from the car/buses annoying. My schedule is a little (well, okay- a lot!) more flexible now, but I would still prefer to start the day with a ride, instead of interrupting my day with a ride... anybody down for some pre- 7am action? I'll probably ride at a pathetic-to-middling level for a couple/few weeks and (hopefully!) improve dramatically from there... I used to ride about 30 miles a day, but that was about 4 years ago.

    Lemme know...
  • I'll be there tonight if anyone else is planning on it...
  • I'll be there later on tonight, maybe around 10:30 or 11. If people want to join, post here and let me know when you'd be most apt to drop by for a spin.
  • I just got back an hour ago. However, I am going to try and make a run between 11am and 1pm tomorrow if anyone cares to hollah.

I may take you up on that. It looks like tonight it's me and yoshi from bikeforums at 10:30 at GAP entrance, unless anyone else cares to join from here?
  • Dammit I gotta get a bike...I'm tired of running that loop.

How long does 6 laps take?

depends on your speed, clearly, but about an hour at relatively moderate speed. (that works out to about 18-20 mph, right?) door to door (I'm at dean and washington) it takes me about an hour for four laps. and that includes getting the gatorade from across the street afterwards.

get a fixed gear. much better exercise.
  • I do about 12-15mph on the 1st lap then 9-12 on the following three. I can do a 30 mile stretch on my mountain bike on the streets but only four laps max in the park. It's that last 1/4 mile hill that kills me.

that hill is rough stuff, I'll tell you. good for the legs and lungs.
  • That hill is rough but great. I used to huff up it, now I can cruise up it at 18mph without too much problem. It has done wonders for my running though, running up slight hills feels like nothing after training on that PPark mole hill. I say bring it on!
  • Slightly off topic but of interest to the bikers here :

Ha! that's great! One thing though:
"Cost of the bike ride: Free. Cost of the subway trip: $2. Cost of the Cab ride: $13." I could never claim this, my bike cost +3 Grand. Would be cheaper to take a LOT of cab rides! Still, a good point overall, biking is hands down better for the environment and appears to (in that case) be a quicker mode of transportation. Yay to bicycles!

Anyone riding in PPark tonight? I'll be there if there's no rain, otherwise I'll be there running.

I might be there around 7pm if the antacid kicks in.
  • It's thundering now. Oh well. Does anyone know when these storms are gonna stop? Or should I start building an ark out of gopher wood and pitch? Maybe I'll attatch oars to my bike.
