Handyman - woodworker available for small jobs
Newly laid off, over-educated (two masters degrees!) middle age guy has far too many woodworking tools, a complete workshop, and waaaaaaay too much time on his hands. He seeks work to keep sane.
Tools available: router, router table, table saw, drills, jig saw, circ saw, scroll saw, biscuit joiner, chopping miter saw, sanders, vises, squares, and more hand tools than anyone should ever own.
Although I have renovation experience (painting, light plumbing and electrical), I have a preference for wood working and painting. Work that can be done in a less than three days is preferred:
-Painting: Closets, rooms, whole apartments.
-Indoor stuff made from wood:
Custom book shelves, closet shelves, built-in bookshelves, cabinet doors, radiator covers, chests, molding of all varieties, doll houses, signs with your kid's name on it, etc.
-Outdoor stuff made from treated wood:
Small decks, trash can containers, planters, benches, etc.
-Light electrical and appliance installation (light fixtures, dishwashers, wall hung microwaves and TVs)
-I will also assemble stuff from Ikea.
-Sorry, if you need the folllowing, I am not your guy:
Copper pipe, tiling, toilets. Basically, bathrooms are out.
Concrete.
...maybe if I get bored AND broke. Currently I am just bored.

have I told you about the affordable rates?
-
Hmm this is a serious inquiry-
I've seen VERY expensive hutch kind of things that go over dog crates (sort of like this but more simple and it needs to have an open front to close the crate door.) Basically its just a wood box thats nicely stained so I can pretend bruno's jailcell is an end table or something. Any idea on cost? His crate is not vurry large.
-
I could totally make that.
esp if you were willing to go with an easy finish, like gothic cabinet offers
http://www.gothiccabinetcraft.com/bedroom-nightstands-c-1_21.html
...you'd be able to get it cheaper if it was painted, not stained. (cheaper wood and more basic joinery is involved).
provide measurements of crate.
I could even install styrofoam board on inside so you'd be able to throw him in there and then not even hear him. ...poor doggy. -
hey you do ikea assembling right? i'll be sending you pm of a number of a client who needs ikea assembling
, just give them a sweet deal k LOL. -
the big jobs are all yours Steven.

Fall is arriving, let's built some snazzy radiator covers!

Remember, small jobs are preferred.
...give Steven or someone else your major renovation.
Basically, if your project needs co-op board approval or a work permit, I am NOT your guy.
We can either agree on a price up front, or you can be the supervisor at a rate of $25-40 an hour. -
whynot, you are not middle aged (because i am not, and i am older than you are!!!)

Subject: cabinet refinishing
i'm thinking of buying a small cabinet (originally was used to hold a tv apparently) and it needs refinishing. do you do that? if so, what would the cost be? how can i contact you outside of this bulletin board?
thanks!
here's the craigslist link to the cabinet i'm considering buying.

Wf, sanding and finishing shouldn't be a problem, PM him.
Looking at the link you posted I'd say make sure you see the cabinet first because of the warping issue they mentioned in the ad. I'm a craigslist junkie too

P.S. Peace, upside down chick. -

...silly economy might make me a full time handy man. -
I have to admit, I spent the much of the day "playing with my wood".

You are looking at a radiator cover that can also be used as a bench seat/plant stand. It fits in a bay window. The cover is 72" wide x 11" deep and 24" high. It has storage spaces on each side. It was done on a budget, $200. -
Hi Whynot,
I own a co-op in Clinton Hill and have a small area of parquet oak flooring that needs to be replaced (about five square feet) as well as some patching along where some kitchen walls were removed. We have replacement tiles, but they would need to be cut/poly'd etc. to match. They are tongue-and-groove parquet tiles.
I have had two carpenters who have flaked on me--one who said he could do it in a day, and another (friend of a friend) who said he could do it in a day and a half.
Let me know your expertise/availability for a quote.
Thanks! -
I am pleased to announce that I will return to the real world on November 30th. This means:
1. I will no longer need wood working jobs to keep me sane.
2. No new work is presently being accepted.
3. Past/present customers are welcome to give me additional work, but my availability is now limited.
4. I will only accept work that involves projects I genuinely enjoy: Shelving. Bookcases. Radiator covers.
Howdy, Stranger!
