Henry's bubble tea and vietnamese sandwiches

Well, now. Seems my hope for something better than Hanco's is now dashed.
-
Wow bmw2000...three whole posts all about Hanco's. Interesting.
-
I had a sandwich for lunch and it was very good. It just shocks me how similar everything is... the menu, the way of making the sandwiches, the name... there is going to be a war for sure.
They were all very nice and have 10% off now... which makes their sandwiches almost $1.00 cheaper. So that's nice.
Someone in line asked if they were affiliated with Hanco's, and they quickly said, "Oh No!" Like the question was strange. haha. -
Subject: Hanco's or Henry's
I don't believe until i see it for myself. The menu is almost identical! I guess Henry's don't have any brains to design one themselves. Today i asked manager at Hanco's and this is what she said..."3 of them stole our recipes and secretly open their shop. Just before they open they try to recruit as many workers they can. This doesn't end here...while they were working at Hanco's at the Bergen St location they purposely make bad sandwiches like stuffing cold meat in the bread, spreading 5 times the mayo, etc." Now i think Henry's are totally messed up. What do you guys think? -

hahaha..... you are totally Mr. Hanco aren't you!!! -
This may come as no surprise to many, but nycguy7676 and bmw2000 share the same IP.

But how could that BE!? they are different names. -
this whole thing makes me not want to eat at either place. i'm officially boycotting hanco's and henry's.
i'm taking my business to nicky's.
better people, better food, longer walk. i can deal. -
Nicky's is a worthwhile walk and I think they are better. The BF likes hancos but they jacked us on the prices in park slope (much higher) and then had the audacity to raise prices in the original Carroll Garden's shop recently! When Nicky's is still cheaper. Lame.
-
nicky's...you hear that?!!....swoop into park slope and kick out hanco and henry and we'll all support you!

Better yet, open a branch in Prospect Heights, where there is no competition! There are several potentially viable storefronts on Underhill or Vanderbilt. -
or prospect heights!
we love you nicky!!!!!
-
Isn't it actually a little bit scary, though, that the Hanco's guy said,
There will probably be a banh mi war!
Maybe we should all avoid that stretch of 7th for a while. -
There was a time when the Vietnamese street gangs were the fiercest force in Chinatown.
(None of the kids working at Hanco's or Henry's were even born back then, of course) -
Hey Mr. Hanco,
Since you're checking out this board let me give you some advice: It should not take 15 to 20 minutes to make a sandwich. If Henry's can do it faster I'll go there. -
Yes, to the Hanco's shills who are lurking (and posting): your drinks are waaaay too expensive. Your service is waaaaaay too slow.
I'll gladly patronize Henry's if they can make my sandwich in less than 20 minutes. -
I have been a frequent patron of Hanco's since it opened in Park Slope. I had to try Henry's just to see if it was any better because its only 2 blocks from my house (Hanco's is 5...Henry's is already winning right?).
The wife and I tried it out last night, and as everyone said the menu looks identical to Hanco's. Even the font and shades of color are the same. So that should mean the taste is identical too, right? Not even close. My wife got the Classic and I got the shredded chicken. The carrots weren't sliced as thinly as Hanco's and one bite basically ripped all the carrots from the entire sandwich. But that wasn't necessarily a bad thing because the carrots had an awful processed taste and we were happy they were quickly removed from our sandwiches. The mayo used on both tasted like it was out of a jar and the bread was a little too chewy. The sauce used on the Classic also paled in comparison to Hanco's.
I will never go back, and I feel bad because the people working there seemed really nice. Actually, they seemed a little too nice to be honest. At one point the guy handing out samples on the street waved to us three times as we sat in the window waiting for our sandwich to arrive. What are these people hiding? -

Where would you see the IP for a user? I looked in the profile but didn't see it. -

Moderators and admins can see users' IPs. I was sharing the information with everyone because of the obvious shilling. We won't ever share the IP itself though. -
right...didn't realize your're a mod.
-
This is all crazy. We go eons without any banh mi, and now we have two who will cancel each other out?! My kid noticed the identical menus, and honestly, I didin't care. But the weirdness of this personal battle writ large...
BTW, I never judge a "fast food" place by its workers. They only work there; they're not the management or the owners! Do you expect a smile at Lowes? The commercials sure make it seem like Staples employees are friendly and helpful!!! ha.
Minimum wage slaves never represent the company, but hopefully the kitchen slaves aren't too resentful to make a good sandwich. I only wish henry had gone to the north slope and avoided this whole mess. I love the new bars/shops in the south slope, and am hopeful there will be more. -
Had Henry's yesterday. Unlike the previous poster, we thought the sandwiches tasted identical to Hanco's. I had the tofu sandwich and my husband had the pork. I am happy to report that they made them MUCH faster than Hanco's. The setup in Henry's looks a little haphazard and the decor isn't as pleasing as Hanco's, but they're closer to our apt and cheaper, so we'll probably be back.
-
Has anyone opted for the alternate "bubbles" in the bubble tea at either Hanco's or Henry's? I noticed the Henry's menu offers tapioca, lychee jelly, or grass jelly. I pulled out my (identical) Hanco's menu and saw that they offer the lychee jelly alternative.
How different in taste/consistency are they? I imagine the lychee might have its own unique flavor... -
I had the lychee jelly once at Hanco's - not sure what I expected (maybe chopped lychee?), but it it was basically lychee gummy candies chopped up.
Fair enough - that's what the menu read, and that's what I got. Bit too sweet and candyish for my tastes, probably won't get them again - not least because tapioca bubbles are growing on me in a big way... mmm....starch! -
As a new to the neighbourhood guy i am currently unbiased.
Had Henrys last night as its closer to my house, and liked it.
Fast, good, no problems.
Tonight Ill try Hancos and see what the difference is.
That is if I make the past the lure of a delicious Jever at Steinhof. -
Ohhhh Jever...you've helped me kiss so many floors in my day.

Thanks for the recommendation. Their coffee is good, and the space is well designed. However, they don't seem to have WiFi, so I'm still kinda stuck with Tea Lounge for evening writing/working.
there is an amazing new coffee shop which just opened on berkeley place between 6th and 7th...it's called cafe regular du nord.

Very Interesting! Quote from the article...
"But there's a twist! BP reminds everyone that Hanco was himself accused of stealing tricks from the seminal banh mi shop Nicky's on Atlantic Avenue. Everyone's hands are dirty here, people!" -

Oy. That ^^^ reeks of limited experience. Nicky's is not the beginning of nor the best of Vietnamese sandwiches in Brooklyn or anywhere else. Amateurs.
Howdy, Stranger!
