gunshots on Washington and Sterling last night — Brooklynian

gunshots on Washington and Sterling last night

edited November -1 in Prospect Heights
10 minutes before 2AM last night my wife and I were awoken to really loud gunshots (5 or 6). A minute after there was screaming and yelling for a few minutes and then nothing. I didn't hear any sirens or anything. I asked a neighbor this morning about it who said there were cops out collecting the evidence on the corner where the medical center is, but I was wondering if anyone knew anything else about it?

  • I didn't hear those shots, but I think I heard some on Friday night around 11p.m. on St. John's between Wash and Underhill. Sometimes firecrackers go off on that block, but the reports didn't sound like firecrackers.
  • I actually heard the shots on Friday from my apt. on St Johns and Washington. It sounded like 3 or 4 pops then a pause and a few more.

I didn't hear any sirens though, but Saturday I overheard some neighbors talking about a shooting on Lincoln.
  • Yeah, I hear firecrackers from time to time. These were unfortunately, without a doubt, gunshots.
  • Heard that, and this time I reported it to 911. Maybe six shots and then a group of men and women shouting (laughing?) and then quickly just silence.
  • It's threads like this that make me pray for faster gentrification. Hopefully, once the tower is built on Eastern Parkway, the criminals will continue to get priced out.

Yeah, we've got our own supposed tower going in near that corner of Sterling & Washington where the old garages were demolished a few weeks ago.

I heard it's two "sister" buildings across the street from one another (the one on the newly-demoished space will have a swimming pool facility for residents).

Do you have a link to any more details on this project? Do you know who the architect and/or developer is?
  • I got a follow-up phone call from a detective investigating my 911 call on these shots...nice to know they follow up.
  • So did you ever find out what happened?

Over the last ten years real estate prices have quadrupled in my corner of Prospect Heights. The teachers, the social workers, etc. have been priced out. And yet, the dealers on Sterling and Underhill remain.

They might make more than the teachers and social workers.
