Retriever Puppy kicked by band members in Prospect Park

Mr.Met follows ALL RULES at ALL TIMES in ALL PLACES.
haha, i know, i know.
but come on. people on this board are acting like the band was trespassing on the dog's territory and deserved to get interrupted or annoyed. just ain't the case, carmen.
just. ain't. the. case. babe. -
"trying to have a conversation with you would be like trying to argue with a dining room table"
why don't you reference the actual rules of off-leash hours during this conversation? barney frank would. -
If I were allergic to dogs I wouldn't jog through one of the ONLY offleash areas in the entire city during the select hours that off-leash is permitted. I would, I don't know, walk somewhere else.
Also pls to not call me "babe." -
haha, quote from the band. EXACTLY what i'm talking about. the owner couldn't get their dog away and acted like, because it was off-leash hours, that was okay.
WRONG-OEvery other dog owner in the park had the common courtesy to call their dogs after their dogs had a proper chance to sniff around, while this dog owner did not.
When the golden retriever wouldn't leave we called to the dog's owner who
was standing smugly across the field asking him to call his dog at which
point he came toward us shouting at us about it being off-leash hours and
how the dog was a puppy, -
if your dog does not respond to "come back" or "here", it probably should be on a leash. radical thought, i know.
-
Also pls to not call me "babe."
sorry, just kidding around -
*sigh* Off leash hours are til 9 AM. Regardless of control or out of control, you run the risk of having tons of dogs at least in the shot when you choose to have your crappy band photos done in one of the few areas that allow dogs to run off leash. There are several other acres of parkland that do NOT allow unleashed dogs no matter what time of day. Not rocket science.
-
if you're allergic to or afraid of dogs, you should probably avoid off-leash. Radical thought, I know.
Additionally, if you will need an unobstructed set for a photoshoot, maybe you should RENT a space and not rely on a public park. It is just that...public. -
Regardless of control or out of control
no, not regardless. in fact, "control or out of control" is exactly the point. There are several other acres of parkland that do NOT allow unleashed dogs no matter what time of day. Not rocket science.
yes yes, people should plan AROUND the dogs. yes. -
if you're allergic to or afraid of dogs, you should probably avoid off-leash. Radical thought, I know.
carmen, answer me honestly. do you think someone should let their dog off its leash when that dog does not respond to "come" or "here"?
set aside allergic or afraid. -
so what if the owner is also in the wrong? did anyone kick the owner?
a dog is a being, not a possession. kicking a dog because its owner is in the wrong is, well, wrong. -
so what if the owner is also in the wrong?
thank you! someone will acknowledge that the owner was wrong.a dog is a being, not a possession. kicking a dog because its owner is in the wrong is, well, wrong.
absolutely! kicking a dog for any reason is wrong. -
In a vacuum all dogs should come when they're called. But when you have 15 dogs running around, playing, chasing each other etc I'd bet that half of the dogs who ordinarily come when they're called will stop running at 30mph chasing another dog. In my limited dogpark experience I have not even seen anyone try to stop their dog at a full sprint or in mid-play. I would say one would have to have an exceptionally well-trained dog for it to stop chasing a ball and recall on command.
And its virtually impossible to predict the actions of a puppy with 100% accuracy. I would imagine that even non-dog owners recognize this and would avoid areas swarming with dogs and puppies if they have serious business to attend to or a serious aversion to dogs. -
We're not taking about people being allergic or afraid or anyone's ability to control their dog. We're discussing the fact that a cheap ass band decided to use a field at the park that has been designated an off-leash section of parkland and had the audacity to get mad when dogs came near them and their stuff.
You're trying to turn this into "people who can't control their dogs"...bullshit argument.
I hate kids. I don't plan to spend any of my time at a playground. 'Cause kids might be there. That's common sense.
If I hated dogs, I'd be disinclined to hang out in the off leash section at prime off leash time. -

i agree, but it didn't sound like that was the situation. it sounded like all the other dogs left when they were called or shoo'd or whatever, and the puppy wouldn't listen (shocking).

ugh. again with this comparison. it's false. -

they had a right to be left alone after a certain point (yes, even in the off-leash area). all the other dogs left them alone. not that one, because it wouldn't listen to its owner. -

How is this false? -
How is this false?
playground = made for children. it is their area, designed specifically for them to have fun. the equivalent of this for a dog would be a dog run.
off-leash area = are designed for humans to enjoy themselves where dog owners can also let their dogs off-leash on the condition that they have control over them. this area is still FOR PEOPLE, but dogs can run around off-leash provided that they do not disturb the people and their owners can control them. -

Once again the Beav has nailed it. If you don't like dogs, stay out of the park. If you don't like kids, stay out of the playground.
=D>
Seems fair to me. -

oh god -
The astroturf field at the 5th ave park is not made for children specifically but I don't go there bc its crawling with kids who are basically unattended by their nannies. I don't want kids touching me so I don't go to a place with lots of kids. I don't walk a certain block near my house bc there are lots of daycare groups commuting through it. I dont want to deal with a snake of people,so I avoid a place I know has just that. I don't like country music so I don't go to country concerts, and would probably not go to the park if a country band was playing (even though GASP the park is for everyone!)
-
oh god. Here i thought we'd have another page of laugh riot but instead Mr Met decides to start the most boring fight ever.

that's smart of you. it saves you the hassle.
it doesn't change the fact that people have the right to not be bothered by dogs inside off-leash areas. i'm sorry. i, for one, would just avoid the areas, but a person would not be in the wrong to complain about being annoyed by a dog that would not listen to its owner inside the off-leash area.
i think you agree with me, you just don't want to give it up after we have both wasted over an hour talking about this. -

guilty.
but being right isn't always exciting. -

also, all of these examples are PEOPLE. we are talking about dogs. -

I would think that if one expects a 7month old puppy to come when its called (keeping in mind it has aprox a 1.2sec attention span) that a 4 year old human child should be expected to come when he or she is called. Unless you're saying a human child is less trainable and more naturally curious than a puppy. -
You know how there's the Godwin law, we should copyright a Brooklynian mutt-kid law.
Wherein as a thread grows longer, the probability of a comparison involving kids being likened to pets and vice versa approaches. Entries for further Brooklynian laws are now open: -
Hahahah. <3

It breaks my heart how much time and effort has been wasted on this thread when the Brooklyn Dog Show for Mutts gets no love.
I feel like my pet project just got kicked in the head... -
YOU break my heart, Pittie City
