Yeah, this is why my Nat Sherman Natural Mints are now Nat Sherman Natural Menthol. I don't care about the nomenclature of my cigs, but the whole thing is rather annoying and hypocritical. If they're so horrible, just make them illegal. I'll stop smoking when Obama does.
-
it really is unbelievable. i give obama slack for a lot of his little disappointments, but there's no excuse for this crap.
-
I'm for it. Sorry, but if the government is going to help out people (poor, old, sick, whatever), then it can help out all people by making tobacco use harder to come by.
If you believe that it should be freedom of choice and the government should not get involved, then by that logic that person who by choice had six kids and can't feed them, or that person who can't get a job because they, by choice, haven't made themselves marketable or that person who had their home destroyed because they chose to live in a hurricane/tornado/wild fire area should not get any government help as well.

mixed feelings, but then i remember how cloves were described to me in high school as being "just like flavored lip gloss" and how many girls i know who wouldn't smoke regular cigarettes but considered cloves essentially a kind of candy...and i start to think it's not unreasonable to believe they exist to get kids to smoke.
cigarettes are tricky, partly because i've watched too many people in my family die of them and partly because, more than most other vices, they don't just hurt the one choosing to use them. (yes, blah blah drunk driving, blah blah trans fats, but there really is a distinction here, imo, as driving isn't a necessary part of drinking the way smoke is a necessary part of smoking.) -
huh, i never knew that cloves had tobacco.
color me naive i guess. -

this is an overly simplistic view of a complex problem.
since cigarette companies refuse to fully divulge health risks, let alone ditch the misleading product names ("light" cigarettes), it is the government's role and responsibility to look out for public health.
that being said, I didn't know about the clove thing and would like to know more. are they banned b/c they're mislabeled as cloves instead of cigarettes? Or is the govt banning clove as tobacco period? -

me neither.

sweet tea makes the correct argument above, the part about marketing to teen girls anyway. -
i feel government should stay out of personal choices that includes abortions, drug use, prostitution, and suicide.
what one wants to do with our own bodies is our choice not theirs.
i just feel this is one step back to the good ole days of prohibition. going cause alot more problems than it solves. -
You can still smoke clove cigarettes, you just can't buy them.
I mean really, one can still shove a lawn dart up one's ass if they want to, they just can't buy lawn darts in the USA.
I have no problem with that. -
Obama is just using a dare I say... smoke screen so he can legalize marijuana. I hope.
The bodega on Lincoln and Franklin sells seven dollar packs
-
how one is suppose to smoke them if one can't buy them legally?
that would make the smoker a criminal by going out of their way to buy illegal clove cigs.
haven't people learn from prohibition and pot?
Howdy, Stranger!
