Problems with Brevoort USPS Station — Brooklynian

Problems with Brevoort USPS Station

This may seem small, relative to other issues addressed on this board, but if anyone else has had problems with the Brevoort Post Office I recommend making a complaint with the USPS. I've had chronic problems there with interminable lines, lost packages etc. I don't know if the problem is that this particular station doesn't get the funding/staffing necessary, but I figure that it's good to let the USPS know that customers are not satisfied.

You can call 1-800-ASK-USPS (1-800-275-8777) and after navigating through the prompts get a customer service rep to take your complaint. You can also send an email if it's easier but you have to navigate through usps.com to the FAQ and then search for complaint. Once you make your complaint the supervisor at Brevoort will contact you. When I made my complaint I tried to be very conciliatory with the supervisor (don't want my service to get even worse!) I told him it seems that necessary resources aren't allocated to this station and he assured me that the complaint would be logged and that this issue would be taken into consideration.

All this may fall on deaf ears, but, hey, program the number into your cell. It will give you something to do to pass the time while you're waiting in line at Brevoort.

  • I've managed to avoid going to the local post office since moving over here in April -- but it sounds like every other post office in Brooklyn I've had to deal with. Ugh. I try to use the one in Manhattan near my office as much as I possibly can instead.
  • boy do i know that 800 number complaint system. i think i called to describe actions (and lack thereof) of the adelphi station 6 times in one day once....

no more. from now on, it is f&b enterprises, on washington and prospect for me! man, i love that place.

Consider the sattelite post office in Restoration Plaza. Two lines, no waiting (at least not much). Restoration is on the corner of Fulton and NY Ave.
  • I am at my wits end with the PO. They constantly deliver mail to me that is not for my address. When I first moved I got mail for Park Avenue. Then it devolved to mail for the same house number and zip code but a different street. One day I got a letter addressed to Lincoln Place. I dropped it back in the mail box and the next day it was redelivered to me.

Last week was the final straw. I got a letter addressed to the same house number on Park Street in MAINE. It was clearly addressed to maine and had the proper zip code. Evidently the wrong zip code was used on the bar coding machine and no employee between here and Maine (including the postal carrier that delivered it) actually read the address.
  • Thanks to all for suggestions of alternate P.O.s Whenever possible I do mail stuff elsewhere, and try my best to ask family to send packages via UPS. I can't, however, seem to avoid an occasional package delivery "attempt" by the USPS which always seems to end in a trip to the P.O. and the long lines described above.

My favorite package non-delivery was when the mail carrier made the 2nd and 3rd attempt to deliver a package at 10:12am and 10:14am on the SAME day and then returned the package to the P.O. where I was obliged to pick it up. I might add that I was actually home that morning, so I think the attempt consisted of the carrier standing outside of the house really quietly and divining that I probably didn't really want my package.

Long and short of it, please, neighbors, continue to call the 800 number to register your complaints about the P.O. Perhaps someday the sevice will get better. A girl can dream, can't she?
  • I know this is an old thread, but it appears nothing has changed since the last posting.

  • When complaining to authorities, try including your Congressperson to the cc list.
Sending to your state senator and congressperson might also prove helpful.

  • I have avoided using a post office for years. We order stamps via mail and use stores like the one mentioned above for all else. Post office workers are a bunch of fat, lazy, incompetent slobs who will never change because they are unionized and cannot be disciplined or fired.
