I guess we know where to find you?

I was so overwhelmed that instead of posting the the previous thread, I started another by mistake. It was the cheese!
Now, if they posted skinny chicks working behind the counter, I'm not sure I'd believe them, 'cause you know that if I had a job like that, I'd be, well........"fluffy" to say the least! -
if you want to spot me, I'll be the one passed out behind the cheese counter at Fairway.
It's wrong to moan in public, yes? -
Will the new Red Hook one have the walk-in meat room, and the loaner coats hanging outside it?
-
this store rules! it's HUGE - way bigger than either manhattan store. I'm so glad I got to checkit out.
fyi, they have free delivery. -
It has a nice river view as well. Two hips and a hooray for the seafood section and cheese. And $8.99 for 200 ounces of Tide. What a bargain!

The folks at Whole Paycheck must be hitting their collecting heads against their collective cubicle walls down in Austin ... as their site at 3rd and 3rd in the Slope turns out to be the newest lake in Brooklyn - Gowanus Pond!
(Site may not be ready for a couple years ... eons away)
Will there be skating next winter? -

Do you work for Fairway? Why the glee at Whole Foods problems getting started in Gowanus?
When Whole Foods opens it will be much more convenient for Park Slope residents and it will do great. I have no doubt that there is enough demand in Brooklyn for both markets. -

I have no dogs in either hunt. I've shopped at Whole Foods and Fairways elsewhere in the area. Both are fine. I'd like to see both succeed.
It just shows some of the pitfalls of trying to reclaim industrial brownfield land for retail or residential use. Even if one has done what could be an extremely detailed survey of the land and what's underneath, there are always surprises. Hopefully the builders of Whole Foods will be able to figure it all out.
Just another thing, the Slope certainly has enough food choices, including what may be one of the cleanest large markets around, the 5th Avenue Key Foods. It certainly has some of the worst, too .. like the two Pathmarks that straddle the Slope, plus the vile D'Agostinos and Key Food on 7th Avenue.
Red Hook has had squat on its side of the BQE. Until this week. -
Loved the Fairway! Im sure I will check out the Whole Foods store but the one thing Fairway has over Whole Food is the view!! I really hope they put some benches like Alafair or Pitu said. It would be great to do some shopping and sit for a moment there staring out over the river at Lady Liberty

yeah, dunno
I'm always irritated by $6 lemons or whatever at Whole Foods, so I too delight in Fairway coming to Bklyn and charging fair prices, even for organics.
Plus Stacey and Alfarnadia are fun to shop with, and it's endlessly cool to be on the river. Can Whole Foods pull off a Gowanus cleanup? THAT would be amazing. -
you guys want to get a fairway run together :P? i'll be free on tuesday to go. my car holds like 3 other people!

considering I spent $108 there on Saturday, I think I'll refrain. my fridge is packed with yummyness. I keep eating and eating and eating and I'm barely making a dent!
$108 at whole foods fits in two bags! I love Fairway! -

I have 2 pounds of baby octopus and a ton of fruit to go thru before another rin.

sweet jesus!!
then again, my guilt levels are high: I somehow made my way through 1/4 lb of smoked beef and a 1/4 lb of jamon serrano btwn last night and today. and I'm kinda thinking my little mix of garlic stuffed and habanero stuffed olives is gonna bite the dust tonight. ack. -
The olive selection is my only dissapoinment. The Fairway on the upper west side has a huge selection of olives and pickles. I don't think the Brooklyn store has a 1/4 of what the Manhattan one does. Then again it just opened. Need help polishing off the serrano?

I think I did in the serrano around brunch today. sorry. but it was DAMN good. i also had some stuffed mushrooms. jesus. that place is so wrong. but so. so. so good!
i make an excellent mac & cheese. also, an amazing polenta and spicy meat sauce. anyone who wants me to cook either of these things, well, um, drive me to fairway and I'll cook for you!
-
and really you think the olive selection is minor as compared to UWS? I mean, there are better olive selections in bklyn heights. their olive bar, though, was about the same as their other stores. actually, I think it's slightly larger than harlem.
-
Jamon serrano?! OMG - I'm going to Spain for 2 weeks in June (Ibiza y Madrid). When I was there last year, I was in serious danger of becoming either: a jamon serrano, some cheese or a bottle of Rioja (if you are what you eat). I seriously mean that I ate jamon serrano (or jamon iberico) every single day for 2 weeks. I couldn't close any of my pants when I got home........and I'm not exactly an elastic waistband kind of girl.
-
lol!!
actually, my favorite sandwich in spain is a homemade ... ok. wait. it's nice crusty bread drizzled with olive oil. then slices of tomato with salt. THEN!!!!!!! fried calamari. um. yeah. smushed. (not a panini - just hand mushed)
but still. jamon serrano, manchego and pulpo pretty much do me in. I should just move to spain. -
Wow - I just noticed that I became a "regular". I think I prefered being irregular

Spain has all I need - ham, cheese, wine, bread, olive oil, red wine and hot men speaking foreign languages (ok, I do pretty well en espanol, but still.....) -
OK, I want to go to Fairway next time you guys go!
For olives, I don't think you can beat Sahadi's, and that's much closer. -

I'm so looking forward to going to Fairway, though without a car it'll be an extreme pain in the you-know-what. Still, I can't wait to wander the place and drool.

Sadly, I'll have to refrain for now - my family unit is broker than broke until the 31st, and I'd hate to go there without being able to spend all that I can! Soon, though... soon...
(Yes, cheese cave. You will be mine. Yesssss...) -

SORRY! This was my replying on a PC that seemed to have forgotten my login info. Doh! -
I finally went to Fairway a week or so ago. A friend drove me. If I had a car I would do all my grocery shopping there. Great selection of coffee beans, excellent meats, fairly good range of organic products, good prices. I have on complaints. Other than the fact that is so out of the way!
It doesn't really have much that Fresh Direct doesn't have. However, once you've paid FD's delivery charge, ridiculous fuel surcharge and tipped the delivery guy - you've probably spent enough that you could pay for a cab to Fairway and back.
Does Fairway deliver to Park Slope?
Howdy, Stranger!
