Spanish bakery on 21st and 5th

Never thought I'd ever have this question answered, but why the heck is this place open so late at night? I've been in PS over 30 yrs and remember when it was the italian pastry shop (back in the day when it had good stuff), now after several changes, and for a while now, has been that Spanish bakery kinda joint, but is it some spanish custom that I don't know of that has people buying stuff there so late after midnight? Secret diner with good spanish food that I haven't tried yet? I drive by there coming home from work some nights and am amazed at how many people are in there at such a late hour.

  • jirasol? its best when drunk. its cheap and pretty tasty
  • A lot of those Spanish bakery places also sell tortas, burritos, pupusas and other food beyond mere baked items.

If it's anything like Ines Bakery (see menu HERE ) on 4th above the 36th Street subway station it may have a brisk and busy dinner and late dinner take out and delivery business, especially with folks coming home from late shifts.

Ines is open 24 hours...I've been there late on occasion for take-out and it's definitely quite a score.

    Yum.

Perhaps the place you mention keeps similar hours for similar reasons (although not over a major subway stop).
  • I've eaten there after midnight after a few rounds at Quarter. It's pretty tasty, mainly appeals to late shift workers who want some food and company before going home.
  • I didn't know they were open late. That's great news. They have freakin' delicious tacos.
  • yea-

    tortas/cemitas/tacos/jarritos/barrato.
